(I'm gonna feel stupid if everyone here already uses this) I may be late to the whole thing, I have heard many people tell me about "Bit Torrent". Well I downloaded it finally and started searching for torrents....... ;D All sorts of rarities were uncovered! I am downloading "The Beatles: The Lost Pepperland Reels & Other Rarities" (as well as the Wenner interview with John Lennon (the one where he calls Paul the best PR man in the world), "Call of Cthulhu" the movie, and Wonderwall Music by George) All sorts of albums, films, bootlegs, etc can be found. This kicks the can out of other filesharing programs... Although it is illegal, well according to "them". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrentwww.utorrent.com/

I've dabbled in it a bit, but it's not my favorite method of finding all my Beatle goodies, which after all these years.. is in the 100's of disks, video and audio combined. The thing that bothers me about Bittorrent, and by that I mean the sites and not the method of delivery is.. Very often you encounter a scenario where the site is not taking any new members, and I understand to a degree because too many like to take without giving in return. However, I was ready to seed some good stuff, oh well. You were asking if anyone had a problem with piracy in another thread, and in my case.. obviously not! In the case of Beatle material, I kinda rationalize because the majority of material is not available at any price from a legitimate source. That would be more properly be called bootlegging rather than piracy. Piracy is more along the lines of downloading a movie when it's still in theaters. Have I done that? ummm.. hmm. Oops the phone's ringing, gotta go. ;D

A little OT, but I'm wondering if Limewire is totally legal?

Um, the MPAA/RIAA is trying to make ripping a CD that you OWN illegal. No joke.
According to the RIAA you don't need to burn copies of CDs for yourself because if it ever breaks "replacements are available at affordable prices"..... It comes down to what your perception of right and wrong is. Just because a greedy corporation says something is illegal, IS it truely illegal? I think not.
CD sales have not dropped one bit, why are they complaining? They are money hording bastards that's why (pardon my language).
I myself like to own things that are physical, I don't purchase songs from iTunes, I go out and buy the CD because data can/will pass away in an instant. When ever my computer/iPod dies all my downloaded material is gone. Lucky for me, bands/artists I truely respect (and get the compuslive bug to collect all of their material) I buy the CD of and then put it on my iPod so that I can have my whole music collection in my pocket.
But this is wrong according to the RIAA, you should buy the CD AND purchase the songs off of iTunes.
I have downloaded every Led Zeppelin (and most of Floyd's) albums off of Limewire and haven't got in the least bit of trouble. It is true that they do sue people (usually 12 year olds, old women, and college students for some reason) and all the evidence they provide is a snap shot of your IP address. ANYONE could fake that in Photoshop but the corrupt courts accept it because lets face it, it's the big coporation's world, not ours.
On the subject of Torrent, I got paranoid when I heard that the MPAA can view the IP adresses of all the seeders and sue them. But they generally warn you first and almost never follow up in court. A good way to steer clear of them is to download movies that are not in theaters still.... Also try to get movies that aren't made by big anti-piracy studios. Believe me there are plenty, I have been really enjoying alot of foreign films lately.
So, no it is HIGHLY unlikely anyone will ever get sued for downloading obscure Beatle video/music. Atleast not until they get their songs put on iTunes.....
Besides we got Bob Dylan on our side:“I remember when that
Napster guy came up across, it was like, 'Everybody's gettin' music for free.' I was like,
'Well, why not? It ain't worth nothing anyway.' ".

I just like to hear new or older songs by artists so I can enjoy them while I'm on my computer. I am getting to know all about artists from the 1960's through today that I read or hear about online. I usually just sample a few songs from each artist. Just enough to get a sense of what they're about. Hopefully, it'll be interesting, and I can go out and buy the CD or DVD. Bob Dylan's a genius, IMHO. I don't know all about his music, but what I've heard I really like. I should go to Limewire and download some of his songs right now. ;D And thanks again for your insight, M Y.

Never messed with torrents... don't have the time to figure it out. I used to use Emusic, but I quit that coz I found that even if I paid for & downloaded every track of a cd..... I still felt the need to buy the cd. Being a collector, I want the real thing, not a bunch of digital files. I want somethin' I can hold in my hand & look at as I listen.
The record companies gotta love folks like me... I'll go buy something even if a friend has already given me a cd-r of the same thing.

I'm the same way. I like to have the album art and everything, it just feels more complete that way. Well, atleast for bands I really like. Stuff like Zeppelin and Floyd (they are good but alot of it gets old fast) I just download.... Oh and now I download Dylan too because he gave me permission to do so! ;D

Make sure you get the real Dylan (up to July 1966) and not the counterfeit fascist imposter Fob Fylan (1967-present). You can also tell by the face, head, body, voice, personality, intellect, humor, politics and presence/absence of left wing political and social commentary and sly, impassioned celebrity imposter clues references in their songs.
