I'm curious about the stars - I have one - how did I get that? Did I have more but upset someone?
Also I am having trouble quoting other posts when responding - I can no longer put them in bold etc. I used to be able to but not now. Have I lost my privileges because I am skeptical ?
Just experiencing low level paranoia!

Just experiencing low level paranoia! They only mean the number of posts that the member has made. At certain numbers of posts, you get a new star and they accumulate to the maximum of five stars ("revolver" level). Also, something about the number of times that Hugh Hefner has slept with you or your sister.

This looks like a question for a moderator, step aside, nothing to see here.. ;D (JK)
Also, something about the number of times that Hugh Hefner has slept with you or your sister.
LOL
Anyway, the stars are indeed related to the number of posts, we here at NIR use the Proboards default:
<50 = 1 star 50-99 = 2 stars 100-249 = 3 stars 250-499 = 4 stars 500+ = 5 stars
Due to the way things are set up with the members only sections, (long story) I have to manually "promote" people, so sometimes you may hit a benchmark and not get a star right away. Sometimes I'll change it a post or two early so I won't forget, but no one is held back for any punitive reasons, absolutely not!
As for the posting problems, it sounds like your browser somehow has javascript turned off in your preferences. However, you can always type in the boldface tags manually, like this [#b][/#b] (put the text you want in bold between the bracketed letters, but drop the pound signs, if you see what I mean)
