Well, I'm not up on any of the solo stuff, but what the hell... I'll respond anyway! The only George solo I ever got was the Wonderwall soundtrack. But I'll say All Things Must Pass (Anthology acoustic version) I only got the very earliest Lennon stuff & still stick with Instant Karma. No Ringo solo stuff. I was a Whozit fan up thru Bland on The Run. My first impulse is to say The Fireman "Rushes" cd, but since that's a collaboration, I'll go to the opposite end & say something from Ram.... I guess Too Many People/3Legs. I've always thought Ram was a unique album. It's a tough choice tho, coz I also really like "Givin' Grease a Ride" from the McGear album.

Faul: My Love George: What Is Life Ringo: Photograph John: Imagine I was just gonna mention on another post how I've recently seen the Concert for George and Clapton did a version of "Beware of Darkness" that was just great. I'd never heard this song before and now I love it.

John found some lovely melodic turns, harmonic turns. Nice, unexpected, unusual things. He did not like to be conventional. Even the meter in "All Yo Need is Love", the 4/4 alternates 3/4 in the verses---not the usual thing in a pop song.
Led Zeppelin has some of that too, well, and Zappa later, and others for sure--but, really, most rock tunes are a 4/4 or a 12/8 straight ahead thing.
I especially find intriguing the end of "Watchin' the Whells". The chords, and John's tune, at the repeated lyric, "I just had tooooo, let it gooo..." is one such spot. There is a touch of demented frustration, there. IMO........

What do you think he meant there? The Beatles were done, Paul had passed away (if even figuratively from a creative standpoint), Cynthia did not work out, his mother got run over in traffic, his dad let him down, Brian was dead, and he had run dry on life. John had a long list of issues. I think, for him, it was mainly about the Paul situation. I think his public answer to that question would have been something in total left field. Cynicism took it's toll. I think it's the only "place" he had left to run to.

I'm also not up to speed much on their solo stuff, but here's my favorites at the moment:
Faul - Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey. Meh, it's one of those songs that gets stuck in your head, and I've learned long ago to not fight those.
John - If I said "Imagine," would it be too cliched? Seriously, that's my choice. I don't really care for a lot of John's solo stuff, but then he didn't have a huge output during that decade.
George - Brainwashed. A great song and a great album.
Ringo - Photograph. Actually, I prefer the live version from Concert for George over the original studio recording.
