It's clever how they did both the image and the date.

Don't forget, that dates in the US reads 9-11-1966, meaning September 11th, 1966. In Europe, it reads 9-11-1966 as the 9th day of the 11th month.
While thinking about this, the real JPM had been killed and nobody mourned. Because we were all deceived into thinking he never passed away.
Think about this, the soul of JPM departed 41 years ago and where was the funeral? Where was the ashes to ashes read for him?
For the world, we were not told of his passing, we were led to believe an imposter is really him.
How tragic. We never grieved.

Rita that is so very true. Today, I went to the funeral of a friend of my children's. He lived around the block from us. They played together growing up ( "manhunt " in the dark was all the rage back then ). His name was CJ & he was only 18 years old. JPM was only 24. To put things into perspective, I will tell you about his funeral service. CJ developed a brain tumor, and it spread. So, he died of cancer. When I got to the church 45 minutes after the "viewing" started, there were cops outside directing traffic. We found a spot in a secondary parking lot for the church. There were still seats in the back, but there was a long continuous procession going up one side of the church, across where the altar, casket, and his parents were, and down the other side. A local funeral home took care of the arrangements. They created a slideshow of moments of CJ's life. There were photos of him when he was a baby, up to photos of him as a very tall thin young man with a bald head ( due to the chemotherapy/radiation ). Everyone was very sad, and there were tears here & there, but noone was wailing outright. If Paul had been given a funeral, I think that it might've gone very much like that. The church might've been bigger, the seats would most assuredly have been full, and I'm sure that there would've been quite a few young people wailing & fainting all over the place. That said, it would've lasted the length of time that it lasted & then it would've been over. The world would've acknowledged his death, and everyone would've gone on with their lives. I think that it was a very bad decision of The Powers That Be to rob all of us of that final goodbye. Paul was a human being. His passing should've been recognized, and we should've been given the opportunity to mourn him.

I think that it would have caused a frenzy...perhaps not circus like as it would be in today's world, but it's hard to say how the world would have reacted in 1966, when we are looking backward.

I think the public announcement of his death might've caused another world wide frenzy of grief similar to Diana's and JFK's.

agreed; politicians probably thought it was too soon for another emotional outpouring from a majority people. jfk's assassination had such a long lasting effect on american culture that TPTB probably didn't want that to happen again so soon - it was only 1966; about 3 years after jfk - for fear that it would shake our cultural institutions or something like that. poor paul..
