The Beatles Reuniting In Toronto! Wait Nevermind, It’s Just Klaatu
Friday April 08, 2005 @ 03:00 PM
Klaatu's
Terry Draper & Dee Long
For the first time in 23 years, the original Klaatu line-up will be reuniting. Canadians John Woloschuk, Dee Long and Terry Draper will be together for a celebration in Toronto titled Klaatu Kon: World Contact Day 2005.
The trio are getting back together to promote their upcoming anthology, Sun Set: 1973 – 1981. The set will be a collection of Klaatu’s rarities, demos, outtakes and live recordings. According to Bullseye Records, this’ll be the last Klaatu release and they felt it was important to promote the collection as if it was a new studio album.
Longtime fans who got tickets to Klaatu Kon will have more than enough to do from May 6 to 8 when they’re in Toronto. The organizers scheduled a bus tour of the city, buffet breakfast and a charity auction of Klaatu items donated by the band and fans — all of the money raised will go to Canadian Feed The Children.
On May 8, fans will join Klaatu for a special acoustic set, an autograph session, a question period and a chance to take some photos with band members.
Klaatu became a legend 28 years ago, thanks to Steve Smith, a reporter from the Providence Journal in Rhode Island. Klaatu were a studio band, whose true identity wasn’t known, but Smith had a theory that the members of Klaatu were actually The Beatles in disguise. This helped the band gain huge hype and success. Rumours and clues were planted everywhere, only adding to the Klaatu mystique.
They did eventually reveal their true identity, which to some people’s disappointment wasn’t The Beatles. But since many tickets have been sold for May’s Klaatu Kon, it’s clear that not all of their fans care if it’s John Woloschuk or John Lennon.
