McCartney believes his solo album is better than Beatles' music Thursday August 4 2005 19:15 IST
ANI
WASHINGTON: Sir Paul McCartney is confident that his new solo album, which will be released next month, could turn out to be his most popular album.
The singer said that his new album 'Chaos And Creation In The Back Yard' could be even better than any of the discs he made in legendary foursome The Beatles.
"It could turn out to be one of the greatest things I've ever done.
"The songs are not over with quickly and I hope it means it's not going to be one of those albums that comes and goes. This one could hang around for a long, long time," Ratethemusic quoted McCartney as saying.

The greatest thing he has ever done. Quite possibly....but not better than the Beatles.

Did he actually say that it could be better than the Beatles? Or did he say that he's happier with his own songwriting now more than ever.. I heard a repeat broadcast on the radio where Robert Plant said, that the music he makes now is the "best" he's ever done. I don't think he'll ever top Zeppelin, but did he really mean it? Artists want to sell their new CD's, and always call it the "Best thing that they've ever done". I can't see an actual quote where Bill says that himself, word for word. A reporter could possibly have taken his words out of context in order to cause controversy. Or, maybe Bill just want's to get CD buyers attention. It can't be worse than "Press To Play", IMHO. I think it'll be great though. Maybe one of his best ever as a solo artist.

it's always a bit weird to compare works of art. I really love Flaming Pie and Flowers in the Dirt, where albums like Off The Ground and Press to Play leave me a bit cold. Sure they are not like Pepper or Revolver but they still get enough of time on my turntable and I guess that is what counts. After hearing the single a few times I'm confident that this could be another great album.

The first single is very good, it's catchy and well-written. But it isn't overdone with all kinds of studio flourishes. Yes, it's probably well-crafted, but not to the point of overkill. Lot's of artists seem to spend years perfecting CD's, to the point where they are immaculately crafted, highly polished...and basically make you wanna hurl .... gargantuous chunks when you hear it. It's good that this first single seems to be more loose and fun. I don't expect a classic Beatles-like CD from Bill, jus hopefully, a really good record that is at least as good as some of his better CD's.

Case in point. Dates are murky now. Two years fron now, people will try to Google the release date for "Chaos and Creation" and come up with several dates. No wonder that we can't confirm one solid date for something as simple as the Melody Maker Awards Banquet of 1966. Even without any deliberate interference, date setting can be dicey.

Perhaps the Aug 16 date os for the Japanese version?
That version is supposed to have one or two bonus tracks.
I bet those tracks will be the two different B-sides for the "Fine Line" single.

I went through the process of ordering from the Canadian site, and at the end, the ship date came up as Sept 13 again.. I canceled, because what's the point, I can buy it at the mall if I want. (bonus tracks not withstanding)

My curiousity is peaked.... I think, for the first time ever, I'll go buy a "Paul" cd as soon as it's released.
It's either a damn good album or damn good publicity.

Yes, these photographs, as artsy and wonderful as they are-----well, what amateur photographers ever got so lucky? JUst the right lens and exposure time; and the subject (Paul) is so accidently (mind you!) well placed in the composition of the shot....... The shutters never clicked so fortunately for" National Geographic"............or "Sports Illustrated".......I mean, it's as if McCartney was being followed around by Ansel Adams.......I would just expect more "crappo" pictures from the 1959-1961 or even 1962 period. Why aren't there more luxurious shots of John or George? Weren't those boys subsisting on soup, cereal, and leftovers in their salad days? Who had the Minolta? Now, of course there was Astrid in Germany, but who in England? Nice shots like those cost money even then, relative to the day. There are a couple of tookey record covers the Beatles had that aren't as nice for publishing as those! Lord give me a Polaroid camera and let me go off snapping every stranger I meet on the street. "Pardon me, ma'am, but could I come into your house and take, I dunno, random photos through your kitchen window? Do you have any musical friends or children?" Maybe Paul had a friend who was a picture bug.............or, beetle.......

The window shopping pic is one of those double exposure deals, so they perhaps are giving away that it's two pics melded together. That may be the case with most or all of the rest, and the last one tells you who.. Linda the pro of course.
The shirtless Paul in his bedroom at home? Nah, that's another trick, maybe Linda had a hobby for a while, playing around with sticking two different scenes together. It was possible pre Photoshop, I've got a book of old photos of Lincoln, and they used to make photos with different backgrounds and of Lincoln's head on different bodies, in yes, the 1800's...
Anyway.. I think The Doc is correct, and it could be termed artistic licence, more than manipulation perhaps.

The shirtless pic is 1963 cause he is wearing the ID bracelet John got him for his 21st.

Remember what someone gave as an imaginary dialogue, and while it's pure speculation, it does look like she is remarking at what a good job the surgeons did.. like this?

Anyway.. I think The Doc is correct, and it could be termed artistic licence, more than manipulation perhaps. Yes, I agree, and I say that especially as each picture there excels in establishing a mood, or a tone. Each one makes a statement to the heart, not so much the head. They really aren't "sales" shots for PR or even like archival record pics; they are single frame vignettes exuding varied emotional states. Pictures of an artist in reflective repose........ "Max, I'm ready for my close-up." "Ma'am, didn't you used to be big?" "It's the pictures! It's the pictures that got...."SMALL"!" I don't personally know much about photography, but anyone can feel the essence out of a photograph. If there's some heart put into the producing of it, they'll be a heart touched by it. UNLESS it's a Polaroid. Sorry, oh thouest Polaroid manufacturers----it's a useful medium, but polaroid shots do best for capturing dull family reunions and security poses. Of course, I will, just one more time, in my time tested way, prove myself wrong (on that last, testy assertion) herein: nhpr.org/?q=node/262/OK so THOSE people can make artsy polaroids. Fine. Mine look like poo-key. I am just not a gifted photog. My efforts make me shutter.
