The song says "It was 20 years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.."
If we take 20 years off 1967, we go back to 1947. So the "Sgt. Pepper" taught "The Band" to play way back then. Who is the real Sgt. Pepper? Something of influence on the Beatles, whether all of them were influenced by this person, or maybe just John and JPM or Bill..
Just thinking that the album was significant with clues. The opening line of the first song....
Doing a quick Google search, the only thing that kept coming up as occuring in June of 1947 was regarding Roswell,New Mexico and the beginning of the UFO era.
I'm not saying that Sgt. Pepper was a space alien. So don't worry that this is the trail I am going down.
I had seen a video that implied the death of Aliestar Crowley was 1947 and that he was an influence on the Beatles.
Of course band leaders of that time Guy Lombardo, Lawrence Welk, Benny Goodman, I don't know when Glenn Miller's plane went down....there was mystery surrounding that.
Oh well, this is a forum sharing ideas. Not saying I have found solid clues, but always love to share ideas.

I've already thought about this. Sgt. Pepper was actually released in May 1967, in the U.K. first where it was "rush released" and after this in the USA on June 1.
This is a notable anniversary: the 20th anniversary of the creation in May 1947 of the "Central Intelligence Agency": the CIA, the "National Security Council" (NSC) and the "National Security Act" which re-formed the U.S. government into what can best be described as a secret police state under Truman and the Dulles brothers, who "took away the republic" in the words of Gore Vidal. Real democracy, I mean whatever used to come close to that, never returned to America.
Great Britain, and what was remaining in the British Empire, were occupied by the US military; and British intelligence, i.e. the English aristocrats' secret police, became absorbed into the USA shadow government as underlings of the American CIA/NSA/Pentagon nuclear weapons set-up. Britain is now even more of a U.S. puppet state than it was in 1947.
What has this got to do with the Beatles? I'm thinking MI6, the British and American governments, CIA drugs, LSD, Canada and CIA/MI6 "Camp X," Nazis, mass music as "Soft Power" in the Cold War against the "Moscow girls" and the "Ukraine girls," CIAlvie Vartan, the Beatles as secret government-created golems, etc. There's no use in explaining it all now but most of you can follow through on this line of thinking.
May 1947 ---May 1967 a festive 20th annivesary party soundtrack and birthday album cover complete with mirror-coding secret messages and psychosocial orchestrations.

Not to mention the supporting cast of famed immortals who graced this "anniversary party" as guests. Many of whom belong to secret societies, or who had been "done away with" by secret societies, and pawns.
Interesting information Beatlies.
We may have found some pieces to the puzzle.

Do you think they scheduled the release of the record so that it coincided with that?
