Hi folks. I haven't had much time to post here lately. I hope I haven't missed much. This is the one picture we do know is from September 1966. They seem to look about right. I know there was a certain amount of discussion about whether the Melody Maker picture is really JPM. And whether the guy that got off the plane from the US tour was really JPM.

Noodles, you were able to enlarge the black carnation picture. Are you able to read the cover or binding of the book Paul is carrying? I'm wondering what it is.

It definitely looks like an Indian religious text. It looks like a statue of an Indian godhead on the cover.

Lili wrote: " January Carnation Black Capriciousness... I wonder why Paul wore a black carnation that day " Traditions aside, I'd have to think it was in mourning for someone. The book he's carrying looks like the ones the "Society for Krishna Consciousness" used to publish. I think he was mourning for someone, and reading up on what happens at death.

Thanks 4KH, I was hoping someone would have an inkling based on the pic on the cover. I was thinking it looked like a statue of a far east god or some such.

They could have been taken a week or less apart depending on when JPM and the guys came back from their American tour.

This is the best I can do with the book. If someone can get a hi-res copy from the company that owns it (I can't make out the watermark properly) then we may be able to read the name. Finding out when and where it was taken would be helpful.

The pic is watermarked rex features, they are Rex Features - Britain's leading international photographic press agency and picture library. I found the pic there but to get any info on it you must pay for the rights, 50 pounds to start. The only info i can see is this, 80032A TB PAUL McCARTNEY, THE ONLY BEATLE BACHELOR, DENIES... They have a lot of pics i have not seen before, but they are so small hard to see detail.

I was thinking of buying some pictures from Corbis or one of the other ones. I was assuming they'd be cheaper than that. A lot cheaper.
