I thought it would be interesting to see how many GREAT solo McCartney songs I could name without consulting any source. It's quite a list, and I'm sure that I'm missing more than a few. Whoever he's been over the years, it's fair to say that he's produced quite a bit of stellar work. In no particular order: 01. Helen Wheels 02. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey 03. Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five 04. Mrs. Vanderbilt 05. Live And Let Die 06. This One 07. Band On The Run 08. No More Lonely Nights 09. Jet 10. My Soul 11. Jenny Wren 12. Bluebird 13. Maybe I'm Amazed 14. Another Day 15. Silly Love Songs 16. With A Little Luck 17. Venus And Mars 18. Rock Show 19. Maybe I'm Amazed 20. Magneto And Titanium Man 21. Listen To What The Man Said 22. Mull Of Kintyre 23. Junk 24. Too Many People 25. Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight 26. My Brave Face 27. Mamunia EDIT: bbbchords' correction has been applied...

You gotta go out and buy Red Rose Speedway, he has some great stuff on there, like Single Pigeon, Little Lamb Dragonfly, and My Love. And you must really like Helen Wheels, putting it at 1 and 15. Good list though.

And Maybe I'm Amazed at #13 and #19, but I'll allow as that's my favourite solo song!

Good list though. Wow. This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone really liking RRS. The songs on that album are a bit long-winded and boring, IMO (particularly Little Lamb Dragonfly), but it's at least better than Wild Life. I like Big Barn Bed and Get On The Right Thing.

What about Only Mama Knows? And from the Wings era, Beware My Love. Those are pretty good songs. Oh and you just HAVE TO add Picasso's Last Words to that list!

Like I said, Jude, it was an off-the-cuff list, and I figured I'd probably miss at least a few of the great ones. I DO love Picasso's Last Words, so good call. I'll add "Put It There" and "Dance Til We're High".

I was never a big fan of post Beatles' McCartney. I did, however, like the album, Ram. I liked the album, Band on the Run. I LOVE the song " Another Day" ( I am of the opinion that Paul wrote that in 1966 or earlier ). I always liked the song " Too Many People", it has heart. I liked a few songs from the McCartney album, " Baby, I'm Amazed" & "Junk" come to mind. I pretty much lost interest in him after I bought " Band on the Run".

Mommybird, have you listened to any of Paul's recent albums? I think you might like Memory Almost Full. And Chaos and Creation was so good that a lot of PWRers seemed to think that JPM wrote it. All in all I think that the past two albums have been some of his best work.
And before you give up on post-Beatles McCartney entirely, you owe it to yourself to listen to the song "Here Today" from McCartney II (if you haven't already). It's a beautiful, moving tribute to an old friend..

I have to admit, Red Rose Speedway took longer to grow on me than most of his albums. And I guess Little Lamb Dragonfly can be seen that way, but My Love is one of his most musically interesting songs as far as chord changes and melody, even if it's a bit corny. Right Doc? And Single Pigeon is just one of those really McCartney-esque songs on piano that no one else could pull off.

I had a two and a half hour drive I had to make the other day and I took the opportunity to break out my "Wingspan" CD. I listened to all of Disc One, the "Hits". I found it superb. Every song most enjoyable. There is only really one song I didn't hear that much back in the day, and I like it too, C Moon. Very well ordered and engineered. Wonderful songs. I plan to listen to Disc 2, the "History", on a similar trip in a few days. I anticipate enjoying those tunes a lot as well. Well, my conclusion is , Sir Paul may be Paul McCartney II, but he is just as talented as James Paul McCartney. Sorry, James Paul, you should have made "them" pick somebody with less talent. As a result, you failed to make sure that you yourself would not be eclipsed by the new you. Too late now. You are in the shadows with Bill out front. Permanently. I hope you're happy with the arrangement, because I doubt it could ever be engineered back the other way.

Thank you, Jude. I'm sure that there are songs on those albums that are well worth listening to. I have heard a few of the songs from them on the radio, and they were quite good. Although I find his lyric about "not having time to be a decent lover" to be "too much information". ;D He has most definitely improved with age. Doc wrote: Very sad, and very true.

I agree, Doc. C Moon is a must. And the whole "All the Best" album. And "Memory Almost Full". Put it all on there, then I'm happy. P.s. Where's the Frog Song (We All Stand Together)? Masterpiece, 'Tis.

As far as "solo" albums go, I'll have to admit to total avoidance of all the 80's nonsense, so my list is pretty simple.... every track from Ram.. especially Too Many People, Smile Away, & Monkberry Moon Delight. And every track from Chaos & Creation except for the last one, Anyway. Then add in Rinse The Raindrops. But I have my doubts as to what is really "solo" work & what has employed the help of ghost writers. Which songs are truely "solo" work is anyones guess. Having said that I've gotta include the McGear cd. This has always been a favorite, especially the tracks Giving Grease a Ride, The Man Who Found God On The Moon, the Roxy Music cover Sea Breezes, & What Do We Really Know.... which takes on a certain significance when listened to from a PWR pov. Any of you Macca fans who don't have McGear yet, really should get this cd. It's a great "McCartney" jewel disguised as a Mike McGear album.

Listen to Jenny Wren. Pure McCartney goodness! this is a nice one also- www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzyIRay1n7sPaul McCartney - I Owe It All To You Last Night You Helped Me Through, Took Me To The Lovers Zone. I Saw There, Images Projected On A Wall Of Stone. I Stood Inside Egyptian Temples, I Looked Into Eternal Gardens, Lay On The Shores Of Distant Islands, Linstening To The Sea Birds Song Of Joy. Oh - I Owe It All To You, You Make Me Happy, Oh - I Owe It All To You. Late Last Night, We arrived Into Some Exotic Scene. Everywhere, Images Appearing On A Giant Screen. I Stood Inside A Glass Cathedral, I Looked Into The Golden Canyon, Lay By The Lakes Of Holy Water Glistening Like A Diamond In The Light. Oh - I Owe It All To You, You Make Me Happy, Oh - I Owe It All To You.
