"And if John (or Fohn) wrote Dear Prudence as a song to Paul and NOT Mia Farrow's sister,
wouldn't that be another bit of circumstancial evidence that Paul was alive as late as mid-1968?"
Yes, it would.
But there is some suggestion (in songs) that Paul was in an accident, and lived, but due to
injuries suffered, became too childlike to perform. The songs "Holiday" by the Bee Gees,
and "Who Can it Be, Now?" by Men at Work seem to describe this situation. "Paint it Black" as well.
"Dear Prudence, won't you come out and play? (Something a child does.)
The lyrics encourage someone who has locked himself away to come out, and rejoin the world.
The lyrics are childish; something a child would smile about:
Dear Prudence let me see your smile
Dear Prudence like a little child
The clouds will be a daisy chain
So let me see your smile again
Dear Prudence won't you let me see you smile
Dear Prudence won't you come out to play
Dear Prudence greet the brand new day
The sun is up the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence won't you come out to play

The Neil Young song "Only Love Can Break A Heart" is another one:
Neil describes his 'lonely' childhood:
When you were young
and on your own
How did it feel
to be alone?
I was always thinking
of games that I was playing.
Trying to make
the best of my time.
chorus:
But only love
can break your heart (etc.)
then addresses the friend he's never seen [met]:
I have a friend
I've never seen
He hides his head
inside a dream
Someone should call him
and see if he can come out. like "Dear Prudence"
Try to lose
the down that he's found.

"Desperado" by the Eagles another.
Paul may have locked himself up and not dealt well with the world, much like Brian Wilson did.
Or: the theme of someone locking themselves away after losing at love is, for whatever reason,
a significant part of the Beatle mythos. Paul wrote "A World Without Love", the Peter and
Gordon hit, which begins with the words: "Please lock me away, and don't allow the day here inside..."
('Paint it black' in other words.) The Beatles did "Hey! You've Got to Hide Your Love Away".
Darkness and blindess are also implicitly part of the situation.
This is shown on the Revolver album, with the front cover emphasizing eyes and light;
the back darkness and blindness.
The Jesse Colin Young song "Darkness Darkness" describe the now-blinded individual hiding
from a world he can no longer see:
Darkness, darkness, be my pillow,
Take my hand, and let me sleep.
In the coolness of your shadow,
In the silence of your deep.
Darkness, darkness, has me yearning,
For things that cannot be.
Keep me my mind from constant turning,
Toward the things it cannot see,
Things it cannot see,
Things it cannot see.
Darkness, darkness, long and lonesome,
As the day brings the pain.
I have found the edge of stillness,
I live in the depth of fear.
Darkness, darkness, be my blanket,
Cover me with endless night,
Take away the pain that flows away,
Fill the emptiness with bright,
Emptiness with bright,
Emptiness with bright.
Darkness, darkness, be my pillow,
Take my hand, and let me sleep.
In the coolness of your shadow,
In the silence of your deep.
Darkness, darkness, be my blanket,
Cover me with endless night,
Take away the pain that flows away,
Fill the emptiness with bright,
Emptiness with bright,
Emptiness with bright.
