I don't know if this has been brought up before but... Look at this video, from the Concert for New York.
"Paul" introduces his new song "Freedom" but listen, he says "WE wrote this new song" WE?! What WE? I'm guessing he just said that because it can come pretty naturally when you play with a band for some time but still... Co-writer maybe?

I think he just meant he and the band, with 2 horus before the show, came up with this ditty. Yeah, I know, I misspelled something....

It was probably Faul using the "royal we" as in "We are not amused." It's also what comedian Dudley Moore called the "universal ye" in a comedy skit.
