Just wanted to welcome you: It's my first post on any such forum, so I've chosen by far the best one. Forgive my English spelling (as I forgive you yours). Being born in 1956, I can perhaps claim to be as old as rock 'n' roll. I know and love the music.
I got seriously ill about seven years ago and decided I needed a new interest as a displacement activity. I chose to go back to vinyl in a big way. I came across a pristine copy of 'More Merseymania' and looked in to its obviously dodgy provenance. I had no idea as to just how many worms could come pouring from one single can.
When I came upon this forum I was impressed with the quality of the input. I have come to admire many of the contributors, including Jarv, Doc, and of course the benign and sagacious JoJo. I hope to contribute in some way to the cause; it has genuine pertinence. Interesting story, and glad you found the ideas here of interest. The English spelling is fine, don't even mind the five dollar words..

Is this in the right place? Forgive me, I literally don’t get out much. Here’s some (hopefully) cloud-seeding ephemera from this week:
The London Metro ran a Q & A with the jazz pianist Jules Holland. He mentioned Ringo and debunked the opinion that he wasn’t a good drummer, saying that not only could he do the basics intuitively, but when he came to improvising, his qualities really shone through. He tied this in with the fact that many bands which eventually ‘made it’ dispensed with their original drummer, including ‘Squeeze’.
Other random connections include remembering an old Steve Harley song: ‘Ritz’ (liked it second time round too when covered by ‘the church’), and then looking into the piquant history of Pablo Fanque. Harley, of course milked ‘Here Comes the Sun’ in the seventies to great effect. He spent a lot of time in hospital with polio as a child, and recounts how the Stones once paid a visit to his ward. Apparently, Charlie Watts (great man!), engaged, but the rest of ‘em were more interested in mocking the kids because there was a Beatles’ poster on the wall.
The 666 bus route in Moscow was so prone to accidents and unpleasant incidents aboard, that they recently changed its number to 616; unfortunate (or possibly intentional), because the consensus amongst ‘scholars’ now seems to be swinging the way of the Truth of the latter number.
This lead me to think about Arthur Calder-Marshall’s autobiography: “ The Magic of My Youth”. He went to meet Crowley when the latter was probably not at his best, finding him unkempt and making a blatant attempt to hypnotise his visitor. He was far from impressed. Last and most least; listened to Danny Elfman’s gutsy version of ‘I am the Walrus’ once again, and wasn’t surprised somehow to find it was the ninth track on the CD (okay, it’s only ten-to-one odds, but I’d take them any day...).

re ringos' drumming. The REAL Beatles - RVS 1963 I think, if it's him of course and not someone else behind the curtains, that his drumming is fine, timekeeping and expression wise especially on From Me to You! See what you think! www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5WSTlQ3-8M

I have read the Zeffirelli (I’ve a signed 1st ed.), but forgotten that passage. If nothing else it shows how, if you’re rich or famous enough, things can be made to happen for you. It also lends a somewhat disturbing credence to some of the more outré speculations with which we are familiar. Sir Terence Ward is apparently still around and now resident in the Greater Satan.
Though things have dramatically advanced, largely through better imaging, materials and micro-surgical techniques, it was possible during the mid sixties to perform surprisingly good facial reconstructive art in the UK. However, its sad stimulus was (ostensibly) the effects of warfare, and you guys did (and still do) lead the field. Plus ca change? PS: Hatters off to jarv.
