www.rttnews.com/ArticleView.aspx?Id=1034371British Officials Want "Abbey Road" Crosswalk Relocated 8/10/2009 12:05 PM ET (RTTNews) - British officials are seeking to have the famous crosswalk featured on the cover of The Beatles' "Abbey Road" album relocated due to a high number of traffic accidents at the site. Every year, thousands of Beatles fans visit London's Abbey Road in St. John's Wood to view and have their pictures taken at the crosswalk. According to British officials, more car crashes have occurred at the crosswalk this decade than in the 1980's and 1990's. Government officials hope that moving the crosswalk to a less crowded area will help reduce the hazards facing both cars and pedestrians. "Maybe it's time to end this once and for all and move the zebra crossing," Councillor Lindsey Hall said to British newspaper The Sun. "It may end up with that." ------------------------ It's iamaphoney doing all that backwards walking that confuses everyone!

They shouldn't move it, it should be a landmark - People should feel honored to have a traffic accident on Abbey Road!

It's my understanding that the crossing has already been moved once before, though not very far, with little fuss made over it. I have never made the pilgrimage; those of us who live in south London often exhibit territorial prejudices regarding north of the Thames.
Sorry if my writing style on the 'Sleep Paralysis' thread seemed a bit High Church; one of my jobs is as a copywriter within medical research. It's another thing that goes with the territory.

OK, this makes no sense to me (as usual) Are they talking about moving the stripes painted on the road? If they're at another intersection it wouldn't be the same Abbey Road crossing any longer, but just some stripes painted on the road somewhere. That makes no sense. Are they moving the intersection? How do you move an intersection without closing the road? Then it wouldn't be the Abbey Road intersection any longer now would it? We have loads of room here in west texas.... just move the entire intersection out here & there will be plenty of room for people to walk across it. But then it would not be the Abbey Road crossing any longer, only a REPLICA of the Abbey Road crossing somewhere else other than Abbey Road. Same thing applies if they just move it across town. It is no longer the Abbey Road crossing..... just some Abbey Road looking stripes painted on some roadway somewhere. I don't get it.

They moved London Bridge to Phoenix, Arizona, didn't they? I think you're onto something, eyesbleed! I say move the Abbey Road intersection - stripes and all - to Texas!

Did it ever occur to these geniuses that simple installation, and/or modification of traffic control devices such as lights and stop signs, perhaps even splurge on a traffic cop given the historical significance of the area, might be less cumbersome?

Ya why do something sensible when you can move Abbey Road to the West Texas desert?
I can go in any direction & find a big wide-open spot for "Abbey Rd" where Beatle fans from all over the world can congregate & repeatedly walk across that famous crossing.. I guaranty nobody will get run over! Billy Bob may be out driving drunk in his pickup, but he'll be several miles away... closer to the local bars.... ;D
