The Beatles: A Long and Winding Road 1940-1958www.newsplayer.com/beatles-documentary-onlineThe Beatles: A Long and Winding Road 1958-1960www.newsplayer.com/Beatles-Documentary"The Beatles story is told through the eyes of the people who were there from John Lennon’s first musical group The Quarry Men, to their final days at Apple with general manager Alistair Taylor.
Their trials and tribulations in these early days would bond them together as a tight unit, loyal to each other and to their dream. This would be essential in later years if they were to weather the storm of Beatlemania.
This is the story of the smoky coffee bars, the endless rehearsals and numerous disappointments that paved the way for the world's most enduring love affair."overall listing: www.newsplayer.com/Beatles-Documentaries

I've been watching the 1940-1958 video, and they have an audio of John describing how Paul, George and Ringo got into the group. John said Paul joined through him and that John "recognized HER talent" !! (At 36:09).

He does, but he's probably talking about Yoko. It goes back to the statement that starts at about 35:01 that he has had only two writing partners, Paul and Yoko. We don't see the actual interview on camera, but he was probably pointing to Yoko, and saying, "the person I picked as my partner".
"...but the only - the person I picked as my partner - so I recognized HER talent (meaning one: Yoko) (and then number two) - and I could get on with - was Paul."
He doesn't phrase it well, I have to admit. No doubt what he was originally intending to say was:
"but the only one that I picked personally, and that I knew I could get on with, was Paul."
However, realizing that Yoko would be offended if he didn't call her "his partner" first, he had to interupt himself, and say, "the person I picked as my partner - (Yoko) - so (you can see that) I recognized HER talent..."
and then (continuing his original thought)
"and I could get on with - was Paul."
