"ABC has broadcast yet another disingenuous and error-ridden documentary about the Tate/Labianca murders. C. Manson is again painted as the epitome of evil to be feared and shunned by all. So asinine, especially at this late date, when so much material concerning the historical reality of the murders has come to light.
Manson was a habitual thief, pimp, and certainly guilty of assault, but he was a pawn of larger forces more than anything else. He managed to stay out of jail after release in '67, despite multiple parole violations. The LAPD was told not to bust him on multiple occasions. Manson's association not only with Scientology but with the Process Church is seldom discussed. He was tied to known Intelligence fronts in the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco, and it was there that he first hit the streets as a self-styled guru and pied piper.
The pathetic ABC special downplayed Tex Watson's role to an amazing degree, when it was Tex who initiated and carried out the Tate murder. Tex was no mindless stooge of Manson. Traditionally, he has been portrayed as a meathead Texan, stoned out of his mind while chanting "Helter Skelter" along with the other Mansonites. The reality is, Tex was a highly intelligent manipulator with powerful connections of his own. It was he who knew the exact layout of the Tate residence, because he'd been there many times. The murders should be known as the "Tex Watson murders". At most, Manson went to the house on Cielo Drive later that night to try and clean up the mess Tex had made.
Sadly, this documentary is just the beginning as we approach the 50th anniversary of the murders."
