So, I started looking at a bunch of early pix, thinking that I would, at least, be able to identify who Paul #1 was, even if that guy was not any of the Pauls
with whom we're familiar. However, there seem to be 3 different children identified as "Paul" in "his" childhood photos. You can see the pix I assembled for
that comparison here. There is a certain logic in having photos of multiple children meant to precede the
appearance of multiple men. I am looking for more pictures of the woman identified as "Mary [Mohan] McCartney" to see if she appears with different boys who
are all supposed to be Paul #1.
But what really caught my eye in this were obvious and seemingly inexplicable photo alterations. Specifically, these two versions of the same photo:
Both of these photos are purported to be of Paul with his first guitar at age 14, the year his mother died. The more blurred photo on the right is the more common
version of this picture you will encounter. In the photo on the left, there is something very strange going on with the boy's left ear and he appears to have a
serious scar on his forehead between his eyebrows and running above his left eyebrow. The boy on the left is, also, notably heavier than the boy on the right.
The few other photos of "Paul" from this time would seem to indicate that "he" was pretty chunky. The obvious questions are: why was this picture doctored and
does the kid on the left resemble any of the people we know as "Paul"? What happened to the kid's ear and forehead? Can other boyhood pictures be found where
the face has been changed to more closely resemble an adult "Paul"?
