Sir Paul McCartney has lent his support to reducing the carbon footprint of this year's Isle of Wight Festival, where he is the headline act. The ninth festival to take place on the island since its return from its 1970 heyday gets under way on Thursday. The annual event was restarted at Seaclose Park in Newport in 2002 and is one of the UK's largest festivals. McCartney was recently honored at the White House where he was given the Gershwin Prize by Barack Obama. Paul McCartney brought down the White House at an East Room concert last week by belting out “Michelle,” aiming its romantic lyrics straight at first lady Michelle Obama. After serenading the first lady with the words, “I love you, I love you, I love you,” McCartney joked that he just might be the “first guy ever to be punched out by a president.” President Barack Obama didn’t seem to mind though. He was swaying along to the beat while his wife mouthed the words. The 90-minute concert was built around Obama’s presentation to McCartney of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The North American leg of Paul McCartney’s up and Coming tour kicks-off in a month and Toronto and Montreal have made the cut. McCartney will also be stopping by the Bell Centre in Montreal on August 12th.These are the only Canadian dates on a tour that will also include Pittsburgh and Kansas City, but it is an improvement considering he only stopped by Halifax last year and Quebec City the year before. There is no word yet on whether Canadian taxpayers will have to incur similar costs for the 67-year-old’s Toronto and Montreal gigs. Paul McCartney has added five new concerts to his Up and Coming tour. The rock legend is expanding the trek with a string of concerts in the U.S. and Canada. The shows in the U.S. will begin July 15 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Sir Paul McCartney, former Beatles co-leader and Wings frontman, will perform his first concert in Utah when he brings a band and his "Up and Coming" tour to Rio Tinto Stadium. After performing at the Foro Sol arena in Mexico City on Thursday, Paul McCartney got a big scare! Macca's tour bus came under attack while driving through an impoverished neighborhood. The driver was forced to break as a crowd scaled the bus and jumped up and down on its roof. "At first his security team thought it was just swarms of fans but when people started scaling the bus, the situation changed in a flash. Paul and the team were left shaken up," claims a source. Paul McCartney has decided to end his 50 -year live career with a farewell tour that includes some venues where he has not appeared before. He will perform in Glasgow for the first time in twenty years. He said he has had lots of lovely moments in Scotland and his show in Glasgow will trigger a lot of memories for him. The iconic musician announced the UK and Ireland shows in support of his "Up and Coming" tour. The first Paul McCartney concert will be held at the RDS Arena in Dublin in the middle of June and will be followed by appearances at the Isle Of Wight Festival, London’s Hyde Park Calling, and a few shows in Scotland and Wales. Glasgow’s Hampden Park and Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium will be two of the venues to host Paul McCartney shows. Outside of the UK McCartney will be performing in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Miami, and Puerto Rico. The 67-year-old musician admits that he has always remembered hearing great things about the Isle of Wight Festival but never really had the opportunity to take part in it. Some of the festival’s editions have become legends like its 1970 show which included Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Joni Mitchell. The festival became an annual event in 2002. McCartney will be the headliner for the June 13 show. Other acts will include Jay-Z, Blondie, Florence and the Machine, Spandau Ballet and Friendly Fires. Indeed, Paul McCartney has had his share of glory. And although he is still performing and creating music, he is very willing to support his son, James, in his quest for musical achievements. A few weeks ago James performed at a bar in Brighton, UK, in front of an intimate audience of 60 people and his father was there to support him with his girlfriend Nancy Shevell. The 32-year-old James had included in his gig a song called “I Love You, Dad” that obviously warmed the heart of the old Beatle and prompted him to cry out, “I love you too!” He even danced during some of the other tunes.
