A video from 1982 where Barbara Frum interviews Faul. By this time, he had learned how to answer questions, yet try not to give anything away... But watch Faul's body language--the facial expressions, shifting eyes, pursed lips, biting his lower lip, fingers to his face, scratching his head, and hand gestures... He gives mostly pat answers, but there are a few interesting responses to some questions like one about the end of Lennon/McCartney songwriting partnership. The funniest thing is about 2:00 minutes in, he latches onto the word "pool" and makes it sound like "Paul"...i.e., "Let's write a pool" or is it "Let's write a Paul"? ;D archives.cbc.ca/500f.asp?id=1-69-368-2040

Great link, that was interesting, thanks! Just an observation, but he seems to get more figitty whan he has to talk about the "old days". I have a similar kind of interview from the early to mid 80's I'll put up when I have a chance.

and, let's write a bus.....MMT.......
Interesting insight about his reaction to Lennon's "bitter" outbursts. Regardless of the possible layers--and I felt layers of meaning----he seemed rather frank about it. It had to have been hurtful. A most irregular situation---can anyone imagine being either party in this situation? Or being anyone remotely close to it? I guess you take a vacation, or blank it all out and move ahead, or, as John may have done, maintained some kind of a buzz.

please don't hate me, but gad damn it, i can't help but like bill. I mean.. he did give up his life to be Paul, that has to mean something. I genuinely feel that he cared for the other Beatles and they cared about him. I know he has done some stupid stuff... but he's done alot of good too. I can't even imagine what his life must be like.. i feel sorry for him really. Money and fame doesn't amount to shit. It must've been really hard to fill Paul's shoes... not a job i'd wish on my worst enemy. Poor John, George and Ringo... especially John, i am for certain that his spirit died when Paul did. Imagine losing someone that close to you, and then have someone that looked like him pretending to be him, It must've ripped them apart to be able to see him, but knowing it's not him... to have something so dear to you.. yet so out of reach! It's almost teasing. I don't envy any of them

can anyone imagine being either party in this situation? Or being anyone remotely close to it? . Not really.... coz I woulda stuck to the original agreement... as planned. I just wouldn't have had the moxy to release that first solo "Paul" record. So right now I wouldn't be nearly as rich as faul is now, but I'd be a lot happier.

...I woulda stuck to the original agreement... as planned. I have a hard time believing that Faul was supposed to be "temporary", in the scenario of all being told after the "official" breakup. I just can't see planning to announce to the public "yoo-hoo, you've been suckered, that fellow isn't McCartney after all." I think he was supposed to be McCartney for "the life of the Beatles". One has to remember that the most famous groups before the Fab Four were phenomenally successful for a few years, then simply faded away, out of public eye and public interest -- both as a group and as individuals. For example, by the time The Fabs came on the scene, no one knew (or cared, likely) what had become of (Dion's) Belmonts, or (Danny and) the Juniors. Even today -- does anyone know the current doings of Herman's Hermits? Culture Club? [img src="http://galeon.hispavista.com/akostuff/img/Dunno2[1].gif"] So he was to be McCartney "for the life of the Beatles" -- a few years at most. A serious miscalculation. What wasn't counted on, was the Beatles remaining popular after their breakup, and gaining new audiences as solo artists. They were the exception to the rule. So it became "in for a dime, in for a dollar"... he couldn't fade away and back into his life as someone else. JMO. And PennyLane, I like his music too. It's been said that his talents and Paul's were not "on the same level", but I enjoy his music for what it is.

Agree with XPT, in that the future as it turned out wasn't forseen. Yes, it would seem unlikely that an admission would be made, but I think after White Album, it became obvious that Bill had his own talent and ambitions. He astutely released "McCartney" before the Beatles broke up and right around the same time as LIB, establishing the idea that he was not going to "fade away", if that was the plan in the back of everyone's mind.
I'm not in the "hate Bill" club either, and like some of his music. Even the recent stuff, "Driving Rain" is pretty good. I think it really burned John's biscuits that "Uncle Albert" was #1 for several weeks in England, while "Imagine" I believe didn't do anywhere nearly as well.

I just can't see planning to announce to the public "yoo-hoo, you've been suckered, that fellow isn't McCartney after all." Ya that makes sense. Just fade away.... but I still don't think he was supposed to release that 1st album. And "Paul" still bein' as big today as he is?? That sure as hell wouldn't have been expected. Even today -- does anyone know the current doings of Herman's Hermits? Culture Club? [img src="http://galeon.hispavista.com/akostuff/img/Dunno2[1].gif"] Well The Herman's Hermits are doin' the Oldies Cruises thing & other stuff like that. I've seen Peter Noone on VH1 as recently as a year or 2 ago. And Culture Club? There was a greatest hits released a year or 2 ago & Boy George was supposed to be in some broadway deal that flopped, & he's been a Rave DJ for the most part. Well you asked for it, so here's Boy George today
