There is a connection with Carroll and McCartney's song, "Hey Jude."
In the "Through the Looking Glass" books, it seems that the White Queen has a habit that when she says the word "better," she repeats it over and over again, each time getting more high pitched and louder until it ends in a squeal. At which time she completely transform herself into a "new creature" or a new location.
Sound familiar?

In the song "getting better all the time" the refrain "better better better" is song in a high pitched Beach Boys/feminine way, like the Queen, and the song is all about a "transformed man" a la the William Shanter musical album. The same manner in which the falsetto-becoming "better better better" is sung in "Hey Jude" which leads to the transformed "nanananana" part of the song. And that is simply the melody of "I'd Do Anything," sung on the Ed Sullivan Beatles/Brill debut show by the Monkees' Davy Jones, from Oliver! ........
"Can't you?" the Queen said, in a pitying tone. "Try again: draw a long breath, and shut your eyes."
Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said: "one can't believe impossible things."
"I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. There goes the shawl again!"
The brooch had come undone as she spoke, and a sudden gust of wind blew the Queen's shawl across a little brook. The Queen spread out her arms again, and went flying after it, and this time she succeeded in catching it for herself. "I've got it!" she cried in a triumphant tone. "Now you shall see me pin it on again, all by myself!"
"Then I hope your finger is better now," Alice said very politely, as she crossed the brook after the Queen.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
"Oh, much better," cried the Queen, her voice rising into a squeak as she went on. "Much be-etter! Be-etter! Be-e-e-etter! Be-e-ehh!" The last word ended in a long bleat, so like a sheep that Alice quite started.
She looked at the Queen, who seemed to have suddenly wrapped herself up in wool. Alice rubbed her eyes, and looked again. She couldn't make out what had happened at all. Was she in a shop? And was that really -- was it really a sheep that was sitting on the other side of the counter? Rub as she would, she could make nothing more of it; she was in a little dark shop, leaning with her elbows on the counter, and opposite to her was an old sheep, sitting in an armchair knitting, and every now and then leaving off to look at her through a great pair of spectacles.
"What is it you want to buy?" the Sheep said at last, looking up for a moment from her knitting.

Wow! Good one Jarv! Marilyn Monroe played Sugar in Some Like it Hot (with Tony Curtis). Sugar is from Sandusky Ohio whose gridlines resemble a square, compass and open bible.
Please, don't wake me, no, don't shake me Leave me where I am, I'm only sleeping
For anyone who's interested, might be a good idea to try to solve the puzzles on this site, get a better handle on it.
"It is quite possible that societies - much like individuals - collectively repress information, concepts, and ideas which would produce high anxiety levels if dealt with consciously."
Rebuses have been mentioned before somewhere. At least I've seen the term rebus in regards to the Beatles clues.
There was a band called Shirley Temple of Doom.
Another band is called the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
"Diana Dors" as door has been brought up and so has "Temple" as a temple. I would add that Doana Dors is a doppleganger in some ways or anothers of Doris Day, Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield.
Is that unknown white headress-like thing of white next to the armchair ram's wool?
In the Sgt. Pepper hidden clues thread I brought up, a long time ago, what I found and interpreted as a ram's skull in the Shirly Temple region that can be seen with a glass onion and a mirror, holding the cover sideways.

The cloth TEMPLE (#73) is seated on the cloth grandmother (#72) in the classic "Madonna and Child" pose. They are both "cloth" figures, to reinforce the message that this image is "Of The Cloth." The church.
So INSIDE the temple doors there is MARY MAGDALENE (Marie Magdalene "Marlene" D-Trick, #67) who has the ear of the RAOB (#69).
OUTSIDE the temple doors is the CLOTH. LADY MADONNA, with the TEMPLE in her lap. The CLOTH nurtures the TEMPLE on the OUTSIDE.
(Your outside is in, and your inside is out.)
The Mexican "Tree Of Life" candlestick and the telly are in front of the temple doors. The telly's antenna is up but there is no show.
There is NO POWER OUTSIDE the temple doors. Even the Tree Of Life has been stripped of its lights.
Unbelievable. I would never in a million years abeen able to put all of that together. I bought a used copy of SPLHCB Friday. My daughter & I were having a good time looking at the numbers in the booklet & then seeing who is on the cover. I think that she would enjoy this thread very much ! ;D

It seems that the people on Sgt Pepper come in pairs. (Maybe the "objects" too - I haven't gotten that far yet.) Many of these pairings are obvious, others are more subtle. Here is what I have been able to match up so far.
(2) Wax hairdressers dummy (#34 & #36)
(2) Petty Girl (#38 & #55)
The Beatles The Beatles
Bob Dylan Dylan Thomas
Max Miller Marilyn Monroe
H.G. Wells H.C. Westermann
Wallace Berman William Burroughs
Gorcey (painted out) Gandhi (painted out)
Albert Einstein (Einstein = One Stein, Mug, Cup) Albert Stubbins (Played in only one F.A. Challenge Cup)
Stan Laurel Oliver Hardy (too obvious?)
Dion di Mucci Diana d'Ors
Fred Astaire Aleister Crowley
KarlHEINZ Stockhausen HUNTZ Hall
The HEINZ/HUNTZ connection might be a stretch, but those have been the leading brands of ketchup for decades in the U.S., (and consider those "Ketchup/Catch Up" lyrics in Monkberry Moon Delight.)
I will post more pairs as I find them, assuming there are more pairs to find. The obvious pairs seem to suggest that we should be looking for the not-so-obvious pairs.
(Interestingly, there are 81 numbered persons/objects in the index, which would leave an odd pairing.)

Apple Corps was not legally formed until early 1968, but the Sgt Pepper cover (and CD booklet) says "Cover by M C Productions and The Apple."
Look at the purple python (serpent, #83), and the tree of life (#74). If we run with the Garden of Eden metaphor, we see that The Apple is all about knowledge - forbidden knowledge, which the serpent says will make you become like the gods.
Legend says an apple fell on Newton's head, and thus he was inspired to invent the law of gravity. Once again, we have the knowledge-by-apple metaphor.
Albert Einstein (#61) showed that Newton's law was incomplete, because it is based in bogus assumptions about the true nature of spacetime.
Newton's law, while encompassing an accurate and useful subset of the truth, is but a tiny sliver of Einstein's greater reality.
Is M C Productions about Macca, or about E=MC^2?
What does Einstein's presence say about the degree of knowledge offered by this Apple?

In these two pics I see three people (Beatles?) not four.
In the second one I see something that seems a grave too...
Any comment?
I am glad I read the whole thing before posting, I was also going to comment on the three-not-four figures! I definitely agree with you there. As for the grave, I see it vaguely, but the drawings themselves are so rough that I never would have connected it with a grave before you had said it. To me, it seems just another messily-sketched figure. You may be right, though, who knows?!

Richard Merkin (#10) has an interesting name.
A merkin is a pubic wig, I shit you not. Our poor Mister Merkin is literally named Dick Dickwig.
What was it Adam and Eve did when they discovered they were naked? They made fig merkins.
Is it just me or is there a pattern emerging here?

The Beachles A while ago I spent some time ruminating on the best course of action for the Who and the Beatles, seeing as the former band have lost their original drummer and bass player, while the latter are down to their drummer and bass player. Make way, then for the Whotles: Roger Daltry, Pete Townshend, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. In the same little blog entry, I suggested that it were far more likely that the pushy, bass playing, mutual back-slapping, musical genii of the Beach Boys and the Beatles would join together first: Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney of the Beachles.
Well, it seems someone else has liked that idea.
Make way for Sgt Petsounds, by the Beachles!
If I were brutally honest, I’d be forced to admit that these mash-ups are quite heavy-handed compared to, say, The Grey Album by Danger Mouse (the mash-up of The Beatles’ so-called ‘White Album’ and Jay-Z’s Black Album). Sgt Petsounds is still a worthy undertaking nonetheless.
Thanks to Michael Larson for pointing its existence out to me!
ADDENDUM
Clayton Counts, the artist behind the Beachles’ Sgt Petsounds project, writes
…Your honesty is appreciated, but I'd like to point something out to you. I am friends with a good number of producers and DJs, and like me a great number of them feel as if the Grey Album is sub-standard. I could give you examples, and even show you just how little work went into the construction of those tracks. Many of them are one or two loops set to a simple beat, and there's hardly any Beatles material on the record. You even get the impression at times that Dangermouse doesn't much like the Beatles.
Don't get me wrong... I do like Dangermouse's solo work, but this project of mine is a different sort of mashup record. I don't think of it as heavy handed, or a mashup record at all, in the sense that it is intended as an abstract reinterpretation, in the vein of Negativland, Emergency Broadcast Network, the Residents, and the like. Certainly some people have felt the way you do, though I dare say that it is really because we have grown to accept and even expect that which is most easily digested. This record is a challenge to make, especially since it's being done almost exclusively track for track, and it should be equally challenging to listen to. And anyway, it would be a disservice to the people who enjoy my original music if I were to lay a simple beat under all of it. Feel free to check that stuff out, but it's not for everyone.
And of course I'm not complaining... it’s probably best if people get a warning before they dive in. It's avant garde / noise music, but I can assure you that a lot of hard work has gone into this. It doesn't take patience to make a beat-driven record... it only takes a beat. (I do make a ton of dance music, and when I play out people dance to it, but it's far less satisfying to me artistically.)
Okay... sorry for rambling. Very funny that we would cross paths! Take care.
And so I’d like to add that I agree, Dangermouse’s Grey Album is simplistic in it’s approach, is beat driven, does resort to loops… and I realise that’s why I like it more than Sgt Petsounds — which I love in concept, much as I also like the Residents, but listen to their gorgeous, glorious noise quite infrequently.
I do like my mashups easily accessible and beat-driven rather than avanguarde and harder to ingest, and Clayton clearly knows what he’s talking about here because, on the same site, he features a Paul McCartney & Wings Vs Ne-Yo mash-up that does tick all the traditional, on-the-beat, easily digestible boxes!

Thebes was the capital of Egypt during the height of Egyptian civilization.
Thebes is the location of Luxor and al Karnak. Digs at Thebes have uncovered many famous sites like the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, and The Ramesseum.
Thebes is where Ramesses II reigned (Ramses The Great); he is usually regarded as the greatest of all the pharaohs. He reigned for 66 years. His queen was Nefertari.
Eusebius (father of church history) says that Ramesses II was pharaoh when Moses led Israel out of Egypt, as recorded in Exodus.
Ram On!
Thebes was the religious center of the Egyptian world. The scarab (beetle) was an important religious symbol to the Egyptians. Scarabs signify Khephri, who is the rising sun aspect of Ra.
In Thebes, the beetles are the sign of the rising sun. Beetles say here comes the sun. Beetles say here come the sun king.
THEBEATLES
THEBE ATLE S
ATLE is a twisted-up TALE embedded in the word THEBES.
THE BEATLES is a twisted TALE "in" THEBES.
Everybody's laughing, and I say, "It's all right."

No. I'm not. RAM ONE: Paul McCartney (Ramone) RAM TWO: Bill "I used to be bad" (Ramesses II) who was pharaoh when Moses led Israel out of Egypt, as recorded in Exodus.
THE BEATLES - THE LEAST BEAT THE BEAST
(And answer my pm, please, jarvitronics.)
The three pyramids point to the stars in Orion's belt. The stars in Orion's belt are called "the three kings". They point to the sun. See 'part one' of the movie Mommybird posted: zeitgeistmovie.com/ . The "arrival" of the three kings point to the birth of "the Son". The "3 Beatles" show up on the drum skin. 3 Beatles/the 3 {sun} kings The arrival of the 3 points to: "Here Comes the Sun". You've got it. Now quit screwing around, or I'll get angry. And there are three pyramids connected with "The Dark Side of the Moon", and the sun is eclipsed by the moon. ;D
