Just got this, it's the one from which Valis posted the cover, the one where many feel it's a pic of JPM with a mustache drawn on. Just some observations, then the whole thing: Neil feels the need to address the confusion many seem to feel, regarding who exactly it is that sings lead on Penny Lane. We learn that indeed, John sang along with Paul. (or whoever) In spite of this magazine being timely enough to discuss the filming of the Penny Lane video, we see almost no pics that are post Sept. 1966. The cover, no way. There is a centerfold of George in the early stages of growing a beard, and one again of George in India, no doubt from his late 1966 visit. Other than that, they dig through the archives.. Billy Shepherd writes about the filming of Help!, and there is a pic of Ringo's stunt double. He doesn't look anywhere near enough like him to be anything but that. "Beatle Talk" is a "transcription of a recorded press conference". OK, where and when? (they don't say) Again, timely enough to discuss Penny Lane, but IMO there was no press conference, this is complete fabrication. Enjoy:

Thanks for posting that JoJo! One thing that pops out to me is I think the facial hair on George and Ringo is also drawn in. It's like they didn't want to use any relatively current Beatle photos in that issue. I wonder why?....not! Certainly an odd thing to do if nothing out of the ordinary had happened in fall of '66, as the PWR skeptics believe.

Something else, did anyone ever hear of this?
Under "Great Friends", it says: "And of course, The Monkees went to that special recording, when Paul conducted a large orchestra."
That could only be the recording of ADITL, no question. Had no idea The Monkees were there.

Cheers JoJo. Great stuff. Something else, did anyone ever hear of this? Had no idea The Monkees were there. They're in the video. A couple of them at least. Presumably the ADITL video is what became of the footage for the Sgt Pepper TV show they mention in the 'press conference'. I wonder if they recorded anything else.

I liked the bit where they mentioned JPM's very expensive sealskin jacket.

TI, interesting that JPM wore a sealskin jacket and Sir Faul was recently on Larry King fighting to save seals....
It is interesting that something that was supposed to be about 1967, the images printed are of the Beatles long before that time, and like one mentioned about the facial hair being drawn on. Why would there be a need to show old pics of the Beatles in a 1967 publication? Why not what they really looked like from that time? Oh, they didn't have anything to cover up...my foot
