A Space Odyssey odyssey (n.) c.1600, "Odyssey," from Latin Odyssea, from Greek Odysseia, name of the Homeric epic poem of ancient Greece, relating the ten-year wanderings of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, after the Trojan War. Figurative sense of "long, adventurous journey" is first recorded 1889. #OutThere lol ;D

When the aunt is on the bus dreaming about food and she starts to cry, if you look at it frame by frame, there seems to be more than just the aunt. It looks like an image of Paul in a Shea Stadium jacket fades in on the left. As you advance frames, the head seems to vanish before the rest of the body. What looks like a distorted head fades in on the right. Between the left and right image looks like a smokey or cloudy area. Then it all fades back to just the aunt. That is what this scene in the movie looks like to me..

Seems as though the "I Was" was simply a AD for the "I Was Lord Kitchener Valet" a store in London in the 60's. Especially since Lord Kitchener's image is featured between the "I" and the "was". But also intriguing, Lord Kitchener died at sea- and his death sprang many a conspiracy theory tale. One of which is described as follows: "There are even some who have suggested that Kitchener did not die at all when the Hampshire went down. There are two main theories (both, unfortunately, as crack-brained as the other). One points to Kitchener’s membership of the Freemasons and suggests that his powerful friends in this organization, becoming aware of his many enemies, staged the entire incident for his benefit, so that he could escape them for good. The second theory (which is sometimes regarded as an extension of the first) points to the strange facial familiarity between Josef Stalin and Lord Kitchener. It is suggested that, when he escaped the wreck of the Hampshire (with or without the assistance of the Freemasons), Kitchener took on a new identity as the Russian communist leader. Bizarre as this theory may be, there is no denying that there is an uncanny resemblance between the pair…" So basically, Lord Kitchener had a conspiracy theory related to him that he faked his death... and was used as a double for Stalin. ... I want you.. I want you so bad it's driving me mad...

Great work in the first bit, thenumbernine! You have genuinely solved a mystery there as it obeys the Occam's Razor principle. So that's that one out of the way. As for Kitchener bearing an 'uncanny resemblance' to Stalin, hmmmm... Well in the sense that people here often use the word 'uncanny resemblance', maybe. But in ordinary terms, I don't think anybody bought a shirt off Joey up the Kings Road.

agreed delysid. Regardless if the "Stalin double" theory is true or not- it is curious that this particular scene featured Lord Kitchener not once- but twice! (The "I was" sign on the desk- and the I Want You poster on the wall) A man who has a death-conspiracy associated with his name. Fascinating.

In the spaghetti scene, after Aunt Jessie gets up and go away from the table, she calls the waiter (John) "Pirandello". Luigi Pirandello was an Italian writer. One of his most famous works was "Il fu Mattia Pascal" (The late Mattia Pascal). It is the story of a man who pretends he is dead, so that he can live his life away from his wife. Mattia Pascal (MP) pretends he is dead, but he is alive. Paul McCartney (PM) is the opposite?

The idea is certainly expanded in Monty Python.

The spaghetti scene was John's creation, based on a dream, if I'm remembering correctly. Did he throw the Pirandello name as an obscure clue, well who knows. "Food for thought", haha..
