Do you think Junior had something to do with A Whiter Shade Of Pale, thisone, or are you mentioning it because it was released on Deram Records? And I'm not sure why I never thought to look up the word " fandango" before, but here's a definition: "A lively Spanish or Spanish-American dance in triple time that is usually performed by a man and a woman to the accompaniment of guitar and castanets; also : music for this dance" ELO - Letter From Spain"I read the papers this morning I saw your photograph You look good in the movie It must be so much fun Letter from SpainFrom someone I once knew I got a letter this morning Postmark said it was from SpainYour writing is so very strange I guess it always was that way Letter from SpainFrom someone I once knew"

Well mostly because of Deram and the moustache!! I thought I'd throw it out there see what you guys made of it! Apart from it being a classic, there is an eerie quality to it, and the old film too. Two verses are chopped out of the single. Well, there's an awful lot to go over in just this one verse: "I see a little silhouetto of a man, Scaramouche, scaramouche will you do the fandango Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening me- Galileo, galileo, Galileo galileo Galileo figaro-magnifico- But Im just a poor boy and nobody loves me- Hes just a poor boy from a poor family- Spare him his life from this monstrosity- Easy come easy go-,will you let me go- Bismillah! no-,we will not let you go-let him go- Bismillah! we will not let you go-let him go Bismillah! we will not let you go-let me goWill not let you go-let me go Will not let you go let me go No,no,no,no,no,no,no- Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go- Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me,for me,for me" So, here's what we have. Point by point: Scaramouche (also called Scaramuccia, a roguish buffoon character in the commedia dell'arte). He also becomes a revolutionary, politician, and fencing-master, confounding his enemies with his powerful orations and swordsmanship. He is forced by circumstances to change sides several times. See Dylan's BALLAD OF A THIN MAN for another relevant SWORD reference. www.lyricsfreak.com/b/bob+dylan/ballad+of+a+thin+man_20021423.htmlThunderbolt and lightningSee my post about the lightning bolt/reanimation from the Pepper cover. invanddis.proboards29.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=offtopic&thread=4984&page=1#64351Galileo is the cat who discovered the phases of VENUS (Lucifer, the morning star, and symbol of DEATH and REBIRTH), which happen to make a really boss PENTAGRAM when one connects the dots. www.lightstrider.com/dcs/content.aspx?ContentID=771Figaro The BARBER of Seville follows a traditional Commedia dell'Arte structure, with many characters seemingly based on famous stock characters. The plot involves a Spanish count, called simply The Count although "Almaviva" appears as an additional name (whether it's a given name or a surname is not clear), who has fallen in love at first sight with a girl called Rosine. To ensure that she really loves him and not just his money, the Count disguises himself as a poor college student named Lindor, and attempts to woo her. His plans are foiled by Rosine's guardian Doctor Bartholo, who keeps her locked up in his house and intends to marry her himself. The Count's luck changes, however, after a chance reunion with an ex-servant of his, FIGARO, who is currently working as a BARBER and therefore has access to the Doctor's home. After being promised money, and afraid the Count will seek revenge on him if he refuses, Figaro devises a variety of ways for the Count and Rosine to meet and talk. The story culminates in the marriage of the Count and Rosine. In Penny Lane there is a BARBER showing photographs In Penny Lane the BARBER shaves another customer ELO - Letter From Spain I read the papers this morning I saw your photograph You look good in the movie It must be so much fun Letter from SpainFrom someone I once knew I got a letter this morning Postmark said it was from SpainYour writing is so very strange I guess it always was that way Letter from SpainFrom someone I once knew Bismillah Using these basic roots, the term bismillah might be literally translated as: - By means of the very essence of God - For the glory of our Creator - With the light of the One - With the guidance of The Divine - As an instrument of the One wahiduddin.net/words/bismillah.htmWe will not let you go-let me goIs somebody haggling with the gods? And finally, Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me" So, is this verse describing a previous life, death, and rebirth of somebody? Is that somebody making a deal? I think so. Thanks for the inspiration, thisone!

Nobody's Child
"No mammy's arms to hold me Or soothe me when I cry 'Cause sometimes I feel so lonesome I wish that I could die I'd walk the streets of Heaven Where all the blind can see And just like all the other kids there'd be a home for me"

I know, Girl, this is a great thread. And NOT just because I started it. ;D Seriously, there are a bunch of GREAT threads that get buried due to the way the board is set up. The "Glass Onion" thread springs to mind. JoJo, is there any way for us to choose, say....the 10 or 20 most important threads, and keep them permanently bumped, or give them their own category, or something? Am I being clear? I'm typing fast because Miss La(i)ne is standing at the door, waiting for me to accompany her out into the "real" world. Anyway...

I know what you mean, something along the lines of the "Essential" board at TKIN. Only down side to that is that threads moved to a new board lose their "home", e.g. a thread that really belongs under "Clues" loses that context. How about this, and this is something in which everyone can participate, I'll start a thread where everyone posts their favorites. Then, I'll maintain another thread that's locked to replies with a list, and pinned in the "general" board. Hmm?

I actually commented on Junior Campbell of Scotland as a response to a Marmalade video on Youtube last Winter. Good job doing the research. I knew William looked like Paul but what struck me as odd is the fact The Beatles let the band record and release "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" before the White Album was released. It went on to be a number one hit.

BTW...something else connected but is still a mystery. This William Campbell name as a rumor has been around for as far back as I can remember. This means someone else made this connection years ago. Does anyone know the origin and history of the clue?
There were several people in bands running around that looked a lot like Paul back then. One which was obvious to me even then was Joey Molland. Maybe Paul's Dad (joking) really got around back then. Joey is from Liverpool, too. It is almost as if they had people ready to go when a replacement was needed.

I have been listening over to a few tracks recently, by a rather forgotten band namely 10cc, as part of my recording curriculum. They were well known as studio wizards. I'll post a couple of song links at the end. I gave them the obligatory wiki. Here's what it threw up, and just in case you're wondering what the hell it's doing in this thread. In 1969 Gouldman took Godley and Creme to a Marmalade label recording session. Label boss Giorgio Gomelsky was sufficiently impressed by Godley's falsetto to offer him and Creme a recording deal. Godley & Creme recorded a number of basic tracks at Strawberry Studios in September 1969 with Stewart on guitar and Gouldman on bass.[4] One song, "I'm Beside Myself" b/w "Animal Song", was released as a single credited to Frabjoy and Runcible Spoon." "Once again a four-piece, the group recorded a Stewart/Gouldman song, "Waterfall", in early 1972. Stewart offered the acetate to Apple Records. He waited months before receiving a note from the label saying the song was not commercial enough to release as a single." Anyway that's enough with the flippin condiments, read the rest at wik! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10ccMy two 10cc favourites together. Do the Wall Street Shuffle
In 1995, the last 10cc release, "Mirror Mirror", had one song by the Paul McCartney/Eric Stewart composition "Yvonne's The One".

True, man, true. Getting back to the idea of several candidates waiting in the wings (no pun intended) to be a replacement for Paul, here is an interesting photo and video. At least the first screen of the video is interesting. At the time of the movie "The Magic Christian" with Ringo and music by Badfinger, there was a young 15 year old kid named Jimmy McCulloch who played guitar with the band Thunderclap Newman. This band also had a hit song in the movie, the 1969 "Something in the Air" during that time. This song is McCartney-ish in some ways. Jimmy McCulloch went on to play with Wings and after leaving the band, died of an overdose at age 26 in 1979. The reason for the post is an a photo sleeve for a record by Jimmy McCulloch & White Line. You can recognize Jimmy and his brother without any problem. I read the name of the guy in the middle but didn't it ring a bell. The second reason for this post is the very first screen of a YouTube video. You can see Jimmy, aged 15 but looking 12 in the center of the photograph. I'm not exactly sure of his age at this point. Who does the guy on the left of the photo screen sitting down remind you of? Pete Townsend discovered Jimmy but have no details except the connection of John "Speedy" Keen who knew Pete. Pete played bass on the track or someone did under the pseudonym of Bijou Drains. Just throwing this out for fun. www.geocities.com/sunsetstrip/Palladium/2214/jmccu_ws.jpg
