greetings all, been visiting here a while. decided maybe to post a little idea ive had.
Now from what i understand badfinger was apple corp first signed band also i read somewhere that glass onion was what lennon wanted them to use as a band name but they went with badfinger.Maybe because it would then be too obvious.
a glass onion is a slang term for a monacle or magnifying glass.
Anyway this is far out there maybe but lets say that glass onion was written as an introduction to this new band which gives the lyrics an interesting twist
red is past reference
green is future reference

now it seems through the song he will reference a "past song well known to have clues" now if we can accept that lennon knew the beatles would be disbanding its almost as if he was pointing us to where to "find clues in the future".
these following lyrics seem key to me which got me to thinking this way

if u listen to this he is almost begging us to understand him.
Lets just say lennon knows they are breaking up so he is saying go here to look for more... "the ship that is the beatles has got a hole and its gonna sink" thats the hole in the ocean.
and a dove tail joint is a way to connect 2 seperate pieces.
his way of stopping the ship from completely sinking is to board a new ship , new crew, new captain but they can sail on.
Looking through a glass onion possibly means pay very close attention .
im not saying this IS the meaning just an idea i had , sort of band within the band ,which is not so far fetched as that was kind of the concept with sgt pepper. For this to be viable at all the frontmen of badfinger would have to be in on it while the beatles just wrote the lyrics and oversee things. which would be simple seeing as they had them signed to they,re record company. And hey what band would not accept these terms to record beatles songs and be their new frontmen.
Just look at some badfinger lyrics, not hard to see lots of possible connections to the beatles being the possible songwriters. Actually the songs seem to be the beatles making digs at one another. Maybe thats where the name badfinger came from as we all know the middle finger is the bad finger. lol Sorry to be so long winded. AND AGAIN IS MY FIRST POST , LIKELY JUST ME DIGGING WAAAY TOOO DEEP.
