Winter solstice has been observed for thousands of years...December 25th is not the birth of Jesus Christ, it's what many pagans call the birth of their sun god. Different cultures had different names...Saturn, Mithras, Tammuz, Osiris, Bacchus....
Yule and the traditions of trees, boughs of holly, mistletoe, candles, exchanging gifts, yule logs, and merriment were celebrated thousands of years before Christ and they still observe these things with the sun cycles.
None of these traditions have anything to do with the birth of Jesus Christ, yet there are Christians who put up signs telling that people must put Christ back into Christmas. Folks, with all due respect, Jesus has nothing to do with these things.
I am a Christian and I do not observe "Christmas" because it's not biblically correct. So folks who don't believe in Jesus and read that a Christian doesn't do "Christmas" think I'm crazy and the "church" people who read this would think I'm crazy too. So folks who read this...just to set it straight,
I don't do Christmas. Call me whatever...that's my choice.
But I will wish folks a Happy Hollidays because there are folks who observe different festivities for whatever religion, or non religious connections.
For folks who have family gatherings, or parties with friends, that's fine for them. But there are many people who are alone and depressed at this holiday and it can be a horrible time for them. It's not all fun for many people, and they don't have currier and ives, sleigh rides and snow...not everybody has a Hallmark time during this season.
Peace on earth should be something we desire every day of the year. Good will to all men should be the thoughts of our every day not just during one month a year. But I see faces of customers who are not cheerful, jolly and filled with joy. They look stressed out, grumpy and just pure mean. If that's what seasons greetings is for some folks, that's really sad.
So, you may be on the Faul side and simply having a wonderful Christmas time, or you may be having a Lennon holliday, "So this is Christmas?"
Ringo Being Santa Claus....now that's criminal! LOLOL
