Rolling Stone called the song one of the weirdest tracks on the album, while noting that McCartney played over 9 instruments in the song. The song starts out with a lounge beat, but also included guitar, Wurlitzer piano, conga drums, and a triangle. The chorus of the song just features McCartney yelling the word "Ichiban!," which is strange because it is a Japanese word and not Portuguese. When McCartney was asked why he said "Ichiban" in the song he dismissed the question and promised that he'll answer the question at a later date, in the You Gave Me The Answer feature of his website. It's not so strange when you realize Brazil is home to the largest Japanese population outside of Japan: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Brazilians Ichiban ("Number one" in Japanese) is a common expression in Japan. Is the heroine of the song half-Japanese? Is "ichiban" a Japanese loanword in her part of Brazil? As Paul explains it:But that doesn't explain why it's being used here. Is Sir Paul really just filling in space with a random word that has no bearing on the rest of the lyrics? Maybe. But I like to think he's using it as a magical incantation. Paul says the Japanese word for "number one" 7 times in each chorus ("there are seven levels") and somehow, magically, mystically, Egypt Station became his first #1 record since 1983. Coincidence? Hmm...

lol Always got a laugh out of that song. I think I read they actually got airplay for a day, until the suits figured out what was going on. Very fifth grade humor, and who doesn't love that, lol.
