I just searched the forum on Google for mentions of Black Sabbath and this thread was the top of the search. I'm not far off dating the switch of Sabbath to sometime in the mid-70's.
I've been listening to War Pigs quite a bit but I've been watching it on this video I found from a rock festival in Ontario (Los Angeles) CA. in front of 250,000 in 1974.
Listening to the words of the song it sounds like another case of "lyrics to die for" -very anti-war. It's a very convincing switch, but I think I've got the two bands separated on lyrical psych analysis. The themes of their songs go from "they're evil" to "I'm crazy" at that time in the 70s
I had no intention of investigating Sabbath, but some stranger on twitter asked me if Ozzy Osbourne had been done. At first I thought it was going to be easy and he was replaced when he left the band and married Sharon, but it looks more like the mid 70s when they had a busy album and tour period.
Here's that California Jam video and it's the same Ozzy as 1970, but he's got four years of experience and is more of a showman for it.
Edit: Thanks B 👍
