That’s not how I remember it, but then again….
Was this before or after I supposedly got banned from the Playboy Mansion?
To quote Paul, “now adays we just figure they’re my songs that I wrote and people want to hear them”

Lennon Almost Got Beaten Up At Playboy MansionBy WENN on 29 March 2007 www.contactmusic.com/john-lennon/news/lennon-almost-got-beaten-up-at-playboy-mansion_1026561"Former BEATLE John Lennon almost got beaten up during a mid-1970s visit to Hugh Hefner's Playboy mansion - when he put out a cigarette on a priceless painting. Lennon was in Los Angeles in 1974 during an infamous period in his life when he was drinking heavily due to a prolonged split from his wife Yoko Ono. But the British star, who was shot dead in 1980, angered his host when he extinguished his cigarette on a painting by French artist MATISSE. Hefner, now 80, says, "(Lennon) misbehaved a little bit and a couple of my friends took exception to it. I didn't witness it. I was elsewhere in the mansion. "He put a cigarette out on a Matisse and one of my friends was gonna... "But he had been drinking. I was a huge fan. He was under a tremendous amount of pressure, you know, from the government. "They were strange times. And Lennon was one of my heroes." "------------sounds like "before"

Another commenter on this board touched on this story before. From the book "Laurel Canyon: The Inside Story of Rock and Roll's Legendary Neighborhood" by Michael Walker, comes the following. To quote Walker: "Troubadour waitresses were legendary for brooking no bullshit from the clientele, as Lennon discovered on his fabled "Lost Weekend" in L.A. during his separation from Yoko Ono...He (Lennon) goes to the bathroom and comes out with a Kotex on his head and that was that. Lennon, Kotex still stuck to his forehead, asked a waitress, "Do you know who I am?" And Naomi, the waitress says "Yeah, you're an asshole with a Kotex on your head".

I am thinking that Lennon and whoever was there LAUGHED AND LAUGHED for days and days about that!
