Recently I received this email, which I knew to be erroneous: "Two moons on 27th August 2007
27th August; the day the Whole World is waiting for ..... Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on Aug. 27, when Mars comes within 34.65 Million miles of Earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27, 12:30 am. It will look like the Earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again." Uh, "It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye." ?? !!!! It had better not!"I didn't know that there was going to be a lunar eclipse that day: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20425640/wid/11915829?GT1=10252The lunar eclipse actually occurs in the wee hours of the 28th, but to many it will seem like the night of the 27th. I wonder if the email above is meant to suggest that people might see something unusual while the moon is being eclipsed, and mistake it for the moon, while the the moon will be looking like Mars due to the eclipse. Mars actually isn't terribly close right now.

Mars is nowhere near the Moon now.

I don't know where this Mars tale originated but it's totally bogus. If Mars ever gets close enough to look as big as our moon than we are probably screwed!

(Actually I think this is supposed to be "Planet X" the last time it came by.)

It was awesome. A pale red moon surrounded by a zillion stars.
Here is what is wrong with the world: when the clock, and getting to work the next day, is more important than staying up all night to celebrate an awe-inspiring celestial event.
Today should be a day off for everyone in the eclipse zone, so they can sleep off the late night, instead of having to get to work on time, (which prevented most people from staying up.)
Tragic.

Anyone who gets up for work could have witnessed a rare lunar eclipse that was setting as the sun was rising! The news media is useless, accept as a propaganda tool.

I wasn't up late but I noticed the moon looked very large last night. I'm sure the wolves were howling to it!
