Attended the Elton John concert Saturday here where I live.
I had a fantastic time; was thouroughly delighted and entertained
as I was 25 and 14 years ago (or roughly thereabouts).
3.5 hours and never lets up thegas. He did 8 tunes from PEachtree Road, a suite of songs from the artsy but not as well known "Cpt. Fantastic" album, and a long collection from what he called the jukebox. He did to great effect, Funeral for A Friend, every measure, and it was perfect, and in certain ways, because it was live and so energized, more exciting than hearing the studio version-which is flawless.
How does anybody sing full out for so long? He played brilliantly; the band was fantastic. Its a sharp operation all around.
He did great things with some old arrangements; extending Bennie & Jets into a swell jam; adding a nine person back up vocal ensemble in top form.
Davey Johnstone and Nigel Olsohn-----OMG the precision, the drive, the impeccable time--they ROCKED the arena. Guy babylon's synth programming, masterful rendering of orchestral parts and effects, unbelievably sensitive and lush string synth work, and
uncompromising delivery and coordination of so much constant synth support---on 4 keyboards and doubtless many more modules-----was inspiring. Great percussionist--savvy, spirited, accurate John Mohan. Fab bassist----name eludes me right now-----Anyway, top notch, profesh, assured, solid, in the pocket rockin' evening.
I have seen great concerts by both Macca and Elton within days of each other. So now, the Rolling Stones come here in 2 weeks---if I can get off work I'm getting a ticket.
When is Bowie coming.........................?Rod Stewart?
Trying to get my fill of Britain's Musical Cheiftans...................
