How bad is public access? In my area, they show this "Bandstand Reunion" show, that's taped at a local party hall, and the mostly 0ver 55 and up crowd tries to dance to oldies from the 50's and 60's. Tonight I was again reminded of this program and it was from a Valentine show some years ago.
I just find it amusing at what lengths some people will go to getting on the camera....and how sad it is when people are trying to do "Hippy Hippy Shake" and parts that are supposed to shake, can't any longer, and parts that are not supposed to shake, are....
I enjoy most of the music, but sad that people call this entertainment...especially when they get into what they call the "Shout Circle". People gather in a circle and start with one guy and one gal dancing to "Shout"...they dance a little bit and another guy comes in and replaces the other guy and then a woman replaces the other and it continues...or is supposed to continue, and then you have two trying to dance and then another one stays on the floor, when they are supposed to just keep it one guy, one gal.
The dance is 4 hours long, and they film the 2 and 3 hours..so by this time most of the dancers are three sheets in the wind, which makes it even more comical. Some think they are sexy and are not...
Oh thanks public access....And this is the best of Public access...
Oh what we need in this world but public access...It's the local yokels attempt at "reality tv."
Among these dances, are local politicians talking about issues, dance recitals, high school stage bands.Sunday morning, local preachers..and once in a blue moon, something really interesting...
This is what happens when someone is bored with regular tv and dares to stop on this channel...
I suppose this is not really about talent, but just locals trying to be creative.
Maybe someone with video skills could put together a PID/PWR program for public access....maybe there is 1/2 % of the viewing audience....
Maybe there's a public access awards show...where the best of PA is rewarded for their efforts...
...right now...just babbling away....Sorry folks...
Just ranting on...
Sometimes watching people making a public embarrassment of themselves on tv makes us couch potatoes feel better about ourselves...even for a while...Maybe that is what it's really all about. That some few are daring enough to show the world how they handle pressure.
