Some people have trouble with it. The important thing to remember is to avoid looking at the second hand, and to concentrate.

Try it with a larger clock. I've gotten the smaller clock to freeze for up to 2 seconds. I think it's just a perceptual illusion, but cool nevertheless. I remember noticing this effect with an analog wall clock. Ususually happened when I was up late studying for a test. The mind can play strange tricks.
