Okay, so this is my attempt to get us away from the religious debate and onto something a little more friendly (i hope lol).. while it may not be directly PID related at least its something that shouldn't create any aggravation... so here goes: Moustaches - they're really cool; why don't more blokes wear them these days? And what is the hang-up that women seem to have about them? They were cool in the 60's/70's ... why not now? There we go.. friendly debate please

Right now I have a full beard, first time I've grown one in 6+ years... ... Anyway, I don't know how to answer the question but I will tell you that when the beard goes I'm going to keep the 'stache for a few days... ... That should shock the ladies (and guys)!

Right on! See, this has been puzzling me for quite some time - I don't know if its a general trend or if its just where I live.. who knows - but anyway, the reason I brought it up was because I'm about a week into growing back my 'stache (aiming for something similar to Bill's in your avatar actually, fireman) ready for my trip to Amsterdam in a month.. don't ask why lol (any excuse will do) ... ...when it suddenly struck me that every job interview I'd gone for last year with my moustache had been a near-guaranteed failure, whereas as soon as I got rid of it (a whole years-worth of growth and all!! ) I couldn't fend the prospective employers off.. and just about every girl I've questioned on the subject has fobbed the whole thing off with an 'ohh... its too tickly.. and blah blah blah' .. chicks dug it 40 years ago, I wonder what changed?

I suppose the trend died out as fashion in the 20th century changed...who was the last president to sport a mustache? Taft? If memory serves, I believe Wilson was the first to buck the 'stache trend and go clean...
...
And I suppose the 'stache lost popularity as people noticed that the only group to still widely sport them are police officers - Who's trying or wanting to look like a cop?
...
Also, I will say I've noticed a mustache resurgence with all the indie rock kids going for the "ironic" fashion trends...

I am all about scruff on most people. I have no problem with moustaches, but I don't think they look spectacular on every one. I can't imagine my dad WITHOUT a moustache! Moustaches don't suit some people, beards look great on a lucky few, but a little bit of scruff adds instant sexiness to any guy. I can't think of anybody that I've seen both completely clean-shaven and with scruff that I am more attracted to in their clean-shaven state. I don't understand the aversion to it either, though I wouldn't say the majority of girls I know think clean-shaven is the way to be; it's pretty much 50-50.
I am too tired to post around and am going to bed. The fact that the only thread I've posted in for the last few days (forgot my laptop at school!) is one where I am talking about boys. I'm obviously a perv...?

So I finally checked in to see what the Moustache Drought was all about. Where's all the controversy & hysteria? No moustache cartoons that threaten world peace??
I can't grow a full beard coz I'm lop-sided... only the left side grows out nice & full. Once I attempted to shave off my moustache in 1978. When I walked into the bar the next morning for band practice, the very first words were the bass player.... "ahhh.. without that moustache, you look gay!" I haven't tried shaving the 'stache again since then.
Well..... that's all I've got on this subject.... but if a moustache brawl breaks out later, I'll be ready! ;D

You should clearly visit America. I, along with many other ladies, would throw myself at a man with good scruff and a sexy accent. (...I am sure my boyfriend would be okay with it...)
James McAvoy, I am looking at you!

I've always wanted to try a moustache/beard... but at (nearly) 20, I still can't grow facial hair (doctor says it's has to do with native american ancestry).

My 7yr old grand daughter Leona thinks she's got a makeover plan worked up for me which includes shaving the 'stache, a new haircut, no more wearing overalls & no more sayin' "Howdy" or "alrighty!" ....."coz if you don't do this stuff you'll NEVER have a girlfriend!" I dunno..... I think I'll hang on to my stache & my overalls anyway.

No, not really. It's a myth. And I look 10 years younger. Which was the point.

Thought you would get a kick out of this in relation to myth: What Lévi-Strauss believed he had discovered when he examined the relations between mythemes was that a myth consists of nothing but binary oppositions. Oedipus, for example, consists of the overrating of blood relations and the underrating of blood relations, the autochthonous origin of mankind and the denial of the autochthonous origin of mankind. Influenced by Hegel, Lévi-Strauss believed that the human mind thinks fundamentally in these binary oppositions and their unification (the thesis, antithesis, synthesis triad), and that these are what make meaning possible. Furthermore, he considered the job of myth to be a sleight of hand, an association of an irreconcilable binary opposition with a reconcilable binary opposition, creating the illusion, or belief, that the former had been resolved.[5] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Lévi-Strauss

thanks, cool. The trickster is is the ambiguous liaison between two polarities, or myth. How funny.

And for the record, "howdy," and "alrighty" are cute and I wish more people around here talked like that!

And for the record, "howdy," and "alrighty" are cute and I wish more people around here talked like that! Ya she's already gettin' a little bossy..... wanting me to look & act a certain way in public so not to embarrass her... she might run into one of her friends! She's havin' a hard time coz I don't care as long as I'm comfortable. But it is almost springtime, so the overalls will be put away till next winter... I'm sure she'll be happy about that. It's nuthin' but shorts all summer ..Oh wait.. I remember last summer.... she bitched coz the public had to see my legs! Damn, she's not even gonna loan me one of her Hannah Montana wigs when we go to her movie! Leona sez if I'm wearin' a Hannah Montana wig, she's not goin' with me! She would be SO embarrassed if she saw her friends!!! "Change is good" Yep....I just got myself a fancy hairdresser & I'm tryin' to grow my hair back out longer again, but that's kinda tricky now. Most old guys don't look good with long hair, & I HATE old men with pony tails..... they all look like they're gonna go home & put on some folk rock or somethin'. (BARF) So I gotta watch it... can't get to ponytail length again.

If the overalls is part of who you are, stick with it. Same way with "howdy" and "alrighty". I find that as distinctive character and that's more appealing than the cookie cutter dude look that is popular today. If there is "man hair" on the face, it's that little bit of fuzz right below the lower lip, or the "Fu Manchu" goatee but no 'tache. I know that man facial hair can change with the ages, but I surely hope "mutton chops" or Elvis sideburns never make a comeback...I do think they were hideous...esp if the Elvis Sideburns and hairdo comes with a 60 year old Elvis wannabe. Overalls are better than "man skirts" or cafmans ( moo moo's for men) But that's another thread!

Leona get's so upset when those words slip out, it's really pretty funny. But she'll have a hard time stoppin' it coz those phrases are like an instant reflex..... they just pop out. That doesn't mean she won't keep tryin'! A while back we were riding our bikes down a walkin' trail & a guy met us goin' the other way & when we passed, he was the 1st to say "Howdy" & Leona was so surprised she almost wrecked.... "somebody else besides you sez HOWDY?" I just think it's funny (& cute) that she'a already concerned with such things. Now if there was a "discuss & share photos of your grand kids" thread... I could go on & on ;D
