Arthur Lee, the driving force behind the group "LOVE", died of leukemia on August 3rd. I didn't hear about it in the regular media, but the Rolling Stone magazine with "dirty girl" Christina Aguilera on it has an article about it. LOVE influenced dozens of other groups, from the Byrds to the Doors, to the Grateful Dead, to Hendrix etc. etc. etc. And one of the band members hooked up with Charlie Manson. If you've never heard their stuff, it's hard to categorize. "Signed D.C." is one of their songs that still grips me, but there are so many they did that were cerebral

Okay, I was thinking of Alvin Lee, of Ten Years After
...but I remember that group had a song "Little Red Book" and it was on some compilation album, predating Ktel Records. "Happening Hits". They were a big LA band.

Whatever happened to Alvin Lee?
Anyway Love never left the LA area; Arthur wouldn't tour, so that limited their exposure somewhat. "Little Red Book" was OK. ;D They did songs in many styles. Very innovative in that sense.

I don't know about Alvin? He probably weaves baskets or does organic farming....something tame and boring....
AlvinLee.com
That was something I just searched. It shows a picture of what he looks like today.
He even played with Mick Taylor in 1975, after Mick's stint with the Rolling Stones.
And no, he doesn't weave baskets or organic farming...but it was worth a shot.
