Well, my parents house, not my place.
See, a few weeks ago my mom fell for one of those Nigerian check cashing scams. Since then she has recieved thousands in scam checks and they keep calling her on the phone.
She went to the police and turned the stuff in, and then she called me today and told me the FBI came to the house and told her the phone was now being tapped and that they are going to work with her to try and catch the scammer.
The odd thing is that from the way she worded it it sounds like they just TOLD her the phone was now tapped. No choice in the matter. I was going to press for more info but I realized she was calling from the tapped phone so........ Oh well.

Or would they just arrest her, or order her to go along with them? I'm not trying to be an alarmist... but it is her phone. Now all her private conversations are going to be listened in on by the FBI. What if a neighbor calls up and says something embarrassing? Or what if a bill collector calls demanding payment or something? Will your mother then be investigated herself? I just wonder about this. It seems like a lot of pressure is being put on your mother and she's done nothing wrong. I hope this ends soon and they catch the scammer quickly. Your mother probably could use some peace of mind.

M Y please don't take offence, but your mother seems to get involved in a lot of bad situations involving money/credit. I do feel for you! But I hope you are learning to distance yourself, because she may not be telling you the whole truth in light of what she did to your credit. again I am not trying to be rude I am sensitive to the dynamics of the situation and I really do empathize. Yeah I'm pretty distanced. She lost like $1000 because of the first scam and nearly lost more with a second one. I guess she just sees these fake checks and wants them to be real so she goes and does it. But anyways, me and my dad decided the best COA was for me to take the computer (mine died last week..... well, it was dying and I put it out of its misery). I know it's kind of harsh but it prevents her from doing this crap.
If she didn't just "fall for it" and in reality did it on purpose, then it's probably for the best that the FBI bugged the phone, because if she tries it again they'll know and she'll get in deep trouble. And it's not like I haven't tried to explain how this stuff works a billion times. She fell for it once, lost money, fell for it AGAIN (though it was slightly different), and if she's dumb enough to do it a third time and gets in trouble then I have no sympathy.
