LINKJust thought it was amusing.. Rome fugitive, Manchester convict, try to file in N.H. primary:
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) _ A fugitive living in Italy beat a convict from Manchester as the first to file as a candidate in the New Hampshire presidential primary.
Jack Shepard's FedEx package from Rome was the first paperwork to be officially accepted this morning by the Secretary of State's office. Shepard, originally from Minnesota, has been living abroad since he was accused of arson 25 years ago.
The first candidate to try to file in person was Robert Haines, a Manchester Republican who served time in the New Hampshire state prison for pulling a gun on a man while campaiging in the 1996 primary.
Haines arrived at the Statehouse early this morning, but he spent more than an hour giving speeches and arguing in the Secretary of State's office, then tried to pay his filing fee with a $1,000 credit check. It's unclear whether the check will be accepted.
