Assuming he is a double...I admit I am partial to that name because of my surname and the fact that my favorite singer (leader of Big Country, now deceased) was named William Stuart Adamson. But anyway....there is the Billy Shears reference, the fact that Abby Road's working title was "Billy's left boot," John's reference to "Beatle Bill", and Paul using the name "Billy Martin" while recording his first solo album. And Linda took a photo of him standing next to a poster- it said "Billy" on it! All sheer coincidence?

And, remember the outtake on "Let It Be", where he chimes, There's still a chance----BILL----that they may see......." Of course, his name could be Drayton or Gustav, but maybe the "Bill" name evolved for the Beatles usage as a sort of in-joke, maybe referencing "Bill" Shakespeare, that committee of dramatic improv writers, led by Sir Francis Bacon, himself in 1610-1611, directed a team appointed by King Iames to translate the Authorized Bible. Here's a wikipedia article about "William": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_%28name%29And here is something cool: www.weddingvendors.com/baby-names/meaning/william/It says William means "resolute guardian." So, hmm, "helmet", "Resolute guardian", and "protection", like "protector." I guess even if his certified legal "name" was never "William", he IS one, anyway. Not William, but A William. And, here, we have: baby-names.yeahbaby.com/baby.php?name=Williamit says: English meaning of the boy´s name William: protector French meaning of the boy´s name William: determined protector German meaning of the boy´s name William: resolute protector, will Hebrew (Biblical) meaning of the boy´s name William: strenuous guardian and this site: allthingswilliam.com/willynilly/name-origin.htmlsays this: William is derived from an Old French given name with Germanic elements: wil = desire, will; and helm = helmet, protection. Some say the Old German name Wilhelm derives from Wel-helm (the shield or defense of many), Weil-helm (protector of rest, defender of tranquility), Vil-helm (strong protector), or from the Belgic Guild-helm (harnessed with a gilded helmet). has a list of nicknames for it: Other nicknames: Alfalfa Bill, Battling Billy, Big Bad Bill, Biller, Billiam, Billy Goat, Billy the Pilly, Buffalo Bill, Chilly Willy, Free Willy, Hillbilly, Mister Bill, Silly Willy, Sweet William (aka, Stinkin' Billy), Wee Willie Winky, Wee Willy, Wild Bill, Willy Dilly Ding Dong, Willy Lump Lump, Willy Nilly, Willy Wall Flower, Willy Wonka. Stinkin' Billy? Smellin' like a rose....

"Willy Dilly Ding Dong?" Sounds like a good novelty song...
Reminds me of an old story my dad told me about a man "Buttermilk Bill"..."never worked and never will".....
His name was Bill, but he called himself Paul, but most of us know him as Faul... He and his Gal, who called herself Sal were in the next room at the hoedown...
But Bill became hot, and he drew first and shot and Rocky collapsed in the corner....
Something like that...
there was an old ditty called "Where Have you Been Billy Boy Billy Boy?"
And another..."Which way are you going Billy?"
I inclined to believe it wasn't really his name, but a "Lennonism"...
Maybe his real name is Mortimer, or Sheb, or Clive....

When is that photo from? The briefcase / suitcase says "Billy Martin. Fort Worth, Texas." Billy Martin the famous baseball player moved to Dallas/Ft Worth (from Detroit) in 1973 to manage the Texas Rangers.
