I was just curious to find out how people here feel about Faul. I've read some pretty hateful things about him (on the other forum) and some of those hateful things are actually quite scary! Anyway, all you guys seem to be pretty level headed about the whole PID/PWR so i thought i'd ask. Personally, I really admire him. I think he is a beautiful person . He gave up his life, it's quite amazing. PLUS.. he's a spokesman for PETA so he's a winner in my book . I truly believe that he is just a victim of circumstance, and nothing more.

My love does it good...
Paul/Faul was always my favorite Beatle. It would be pretty hard for me to hate him after all this time, though it does feel weird after learning that the rumors were true after all...
But what else could he do, but be swept away to "become" Paul McCartney. After that, how could there be any turning back? You can't say he's Paul, and then turn around and say he isn't- no matter how we wish they would have admitted it.
He's probably so used to being "Paul" now, he may barely even think about his past... dunno...

I used to be very anti-f/paul but was converted a couple of yrs back. With the whole PWR thing being figured in along with a few good releases; I've gained some respect for the guy.
Before the PWR realization, I really did not like him in the least. All the music he was releasing from late 70's thru the 80's was really bad... at worst, or at best.... just worthless fluff.
I did go see him in 93 or 94 & the show was so good that I rebounded somewhat at that point.
So the 90's show started my change of opinion. Then, once I discovered this PWR stuff I had to rethink my attitude towards him. He did do a good job as Beatle Bill. Now add in some interesting releases like The Fireman (wow), & his Driving Rain cd & that seals the deal. I'm a fan again... no doubt. ;D

I have no ill will towards, or dislike for, Faul.
I enjoy a lot of his music, and I admire the fact that he does so much work on behalf of animals.

I was always a bit turned off by those anti-P/Faul rants on the other board too. Of course, people have issues with him whether they believe he was replaced or not, but I'm a fan. I agree his solo stuff isn't anyway near the inspired Beatles material, but a lot of it is pretty damn catchy.
Usually it comes down to the John vs. Paul issue, but it's silly to pick sides in a feud that ended long ago. They both have drastically different musical styles, but I appreciate and enjoy both.
Finally, as a fellow vegetarian, I can admire what Paul/Faul/Bill and Linda did for animals. I've never tried any of Linda's frozen vegetarian dinners, but if they're still being marketed and I come across one, I'll be sure to give them a try.

To cope with the whole situation a person would have to be in, to pull this off for so long---he would HAVE to have a lot of rebound, coping, and philosophic grounding to get through. Imagine it going on for a few weeks, months, a year or two.! WOW! Imagine decade after decade-------surely he takes "vacations" from the role in someway, occassionally, like going to a very private place and having everyone call him François or something------and try to look as "unPaul" as possible, and listen only to bossa novas or something the opposite of rock and roll..... I loved "Band on the Run", and other Wings music from the middle 70's. I was always amazed with the range and clarity of Sir Paul's voice from that time period, and wished I could sing as well and as high. But it was not to be! Sedaka, Sir Elton, McCartney, Leo Sayer, Steve Walsh etc. all these guys could make that clarion rock tenor sound. I would squawk myself hoarse at the piano until I had to face the undeniable truth---I was not and would never be a rock and roll tenor. A faux Broadway baritone----the only "voice" I could muster.. But, I'm OK with that; for the most part nowadays . I followed my friends' advice and stuck to the piano...... My guess is he has a strong love for his country (ies) i.e. Britain, Scotland, Canada....I sense, from his actions and life, a feeling of national "duty", and a willingness to "serve." His Glasonbury concert of 2004 was very polished and most enjoyable. He, and his very able bandmates, did something for the enormous crowd in attendance that none of us here could have done.......... I saw happy people of all ages, families.......... I saw a veteran entertainer up there on that stage (in the video), totally sure of himself, rock solid in execution, playing seamlessly fluid bass and singing confidently in his full range. I heard Wings music, later music, a new song or two, and some classic Beatles performed with justice and an apt nostalgia. His personal mood was of immersement in the music; and his patter was never arrogant, or dismissive to the crowd. He(and the band) made "pleasing the crowd" their business. As it should be. It was so well done, I forgot all about this PID business for an hour or two, and just saw Paul McCartney up there on that stage.

But, in addition, yes, it's evident that he is one that has put in the effort and the time, of doing some positive good in many areas. He has followed through with action, endorsement, and no doubt the pocketbook, into supporting things which needed attention and change.
Animals, children, the environment, our future on this fragile planet, the whole land mine issue......I asked myself, you know, silently, in my head, not aloud:
What have I, DocRobert/Perplexed done lately?........what sacrifices or investments of time, energy, and resources have I made?........(sound of Jeopardy theme)........(clock ticking).........where is my list of good works?... (crickets, pin drops)..............how have I made good?....(sound of blood rushing thru capillaries in the inner ear).........what was my most recent good deed or kindness toward my neighbor?...(sound of plants growing 30 yards away).........
I never knew my ears were so sensitive! Well, I'm not used to not hearing myself talking outloud..........
When you sit down and really think, sometimes you realize that you have a lot less to say about something than "you thought you did........."

...What have I, DocRobert/Perplexed done lately... you've brought entertainment and happiness to people who have seen your performances and enjoyed your talents. And there was at least one person in that audience who really needed a brief 'escape'...and you gave them that gift. Don't ever underestimate the joy that entertainment brings to people. Then there are the rest of us, who benefit by simply knowing you.
