"In Aleister Crowley's book, Magick, one of his occultic teachings is that you should learn to talk backwards, write backwards and play phonograph records backwards. This inspired and encouraged the use of backward masking in the record industry and directly tied it to the occult. This was to become a channel for Satanically infiltrating the minds of unsuspecting people... the evil he began continues with us to this day. "
The passage can be found in Appendix VII, sections (a-f) of Crowley's 500 page book. It says:
a) Let him (The Adept) learn to write backwards, with either hand. b) Let him learn to walk backwards. c) Let him constantly watch, if convenient, cinematograph films, and listen to phonograph records, reversed, and let him so accustom him self to these that they appear natural and appreciable as whole. d) Let him practice speaking backwards: thus for "I am He" let him say, "Eh ma I." e) Let him learn to read backwards. In this it is difficult to avoid cheating one's self, as an expert reader sees a sentence at a glance. Let his disciple read aloud to him backwards, slowly at first, then more quickly. f) Of his own ingenium, let him devise other methods.

This is very important: Alesiter Crowley actually wrote "I am he" as the examplar, and this is where the opening line of "I Am The Walrus" is from. A key finding in Beatles history and world history, right here. NIR again makes history.

Nothing particularly Satanic about it though IMO. More a way of communicating with people who aren't just "robots."
If you have listened to music backwards and know what they say backwards, and can even imitate them backwards, does that make you a Satanist? I don't think so. If that is the case then it implies that anything that it coherent when played backwards is actually an Occultist message, I think it is actually a message for the open minded people who have then intelligence to discover these messages.

One wonders how backwards audio is used in the world of spycraft to send hidden messages.
