I hope I am not being rude, but a huge number of people casually knew him and I don't think all of them could be paid to keep quiet. "Hey, Paul- what's up with your eyes being closer together?" So the double had to be VERY convincing, or maybe he's still with us.

You are correct, but the only person he seemed to have any contact with for several months was Mal Evans, (watched him like a hawk) and the Beatles and their inner circle. As some have pointed out, the look was really close by 1968, after a period where there was an abrupt change. Or it's like this: looks like Paul --->looks like God knows who ---> looks like Paul again. An example, the same members of the press were old hands at interviewing the guys, as seen in the Revolver press conference. It was spontanious, fun, full of humor, and they went out and mixed with the crowd. A year later, we have an interview on BBC, (not the LSD interview) one on one with Paul, carefully scripted. (it looks like to me) A drastic change in itself. And no press old timers around anymore, the "casual aquaintances".

And don't ever be afraid to speak up. Legitimate questions are never a problem here...the "troublemakers" make themselves very obvious, and you aren't one My thoughts on your question... Other than my immediate family, there are very few people in my life that were there five years ago. Of the ones who are, some have not seen me in three years or more. In Paul's case, in 1964, with (1) all the obligations The Beatles had, and (2) their exhausting travel schedule; it is likely that he would've "lost contact" with all but the people closest to him. At that time, there was no internet, and long-distance phone calls were horribly expensive. The time it took to write and post a letter would also likely have been reserved for only the closest people in his life. You could "know" Paul casually, and seeing him on a fuzzy 1960's TV set think he looked a bit different. See him a few years later on TV or film and think the changes were just due to the passing of time. After all, he's there with the other three, he has to be Paul...right?

that's a pretty good point jojo, i never really thought about that. You're right though that for a short time Paul looked nothing at all like James Paul. Maybe the Beatles did that on purpose and had a close friend pose as paul for awhile or purposely distort his appearence a little just to see how the fans would react. Or perhaps it's the old theory where James Paul was just reincarnated/ressurected into Faul and he started to look like himself again, lol.

I thought he "casually knew people such as Beatles insiders (doubt they were in on the "secret," his barber, other singers, musicians, the newspaper man, his vet (Martha,) Janes family......." Such a convincing double.
