GEORGE MARTIN
John said to me before we started Let It Be: “I don’t want any of your production rubbish on this one. I don’t want any overdubbing of voices. I don’t want any editing. Everything has got to be performed live like it used to be. It’s got to be real, man, it’s got to be honest.”
PRODUCTION RUBBISH??? OVERDUBBING VOICES??? IT'S GOT TO BE REAL AND HONEST? I don't know you but I find more than one meaning in John's words

Very good observation Eggy.
Probably Sgt. Pepper, MMT & The White Album were albums with a heavy amount of Martin's influence on them.
I wonder if John cared that anyone found out that Paul was really Bill.

I wonder if John cared that anyone found out that Paul was really Bill. I dunno, I've always gotten the impression that it kinda pissed John off when they actually got away with it, & he probably wondered why more people didn't notice the differences. But he was very complex, so there may have been other times when he got a sinister sort of kick out of it. A part of him probably did get off on fooling everybody.

Perform live like they used to.. Yes, like the way they would record pre Pepper, all in the same room, no "Paul" coming in after hours to lay down the bass tracks, what's up with that? Granted there were added intruments and misc sound effects that would be dubbed in after the fact. This was a return alright, complete with cameras and tape recorders capturing the whole (very sad) thing.
I agree with Eggy, John was fed up with the tricks. Agree with Eyesbleed as well, part of him may have enjoyed the idea of puling it off, but mostly he worked at the opposing idea, getting the truth out somehow. Let It Be was "this is who we are", regardless of your belief in Paul replaced or not.

IMO, John fought a big battle with himself, he was between the sword and the wall though. He was agreed in the beggining but after time it was no come back for him. He was part of all that too. Again, I think he fought that battle against himself till the end of his life............. well, we all know how it ended
