I've been wondering about the Paul-Jane relationship afer his "death", Jane lived with him after all ( it wasn't considered proper at the time," plus they were together for 2 years. I've always seen it as obvious proof he is alive, but if Paul were William, the thought of Jane and him getting together is almost sweet. I'll write it into my Paul-is-dead fic, any comments?
I imagine it must have been torture for her otherwise, pretending to be in love with that guy....

If Paul was replaced, Jane would have been required to be with the new one for personal appearances just for the illusion that nothing had changed. Really, I don't think they ever had a true relationship.

Found this timeline... I've seen that date before, and wondered about it... how is it "Paul" and Jane were only officially engaged in '67??
25 Dec 1967 Paul and Jane announce their engagement.
20 Jul 1968 Jane Asher announces that their engagement is off after finding Paul in bed with another girl, Francie Schwartz.

I kind of fancy the thought that if maybe Paul had married Sylvie Vartan, then Bill may have ended up with a drag queen! About Bill and Jane, though, I don't think there was ever really anything between them.

Did you notice that Jane never ever talked again about Paul or Faul in her life?

Did you notice that Jane never ever talked again about Paul or Faul in her life? My guess is that this was probably one of the most difficult times in her life. Not only did she loose JPM... & I think they were already married.... but then, after that, she had to hang out & smile with this other creepy guy. If I was her, I don't think I'd wanna revisit that time either.

Really... so you're saying the engagement date is fake... it must be... I remember reading somewhere a long time ago, a different date completely... so the wedding was kept secret?

I don't have anything handy to back this up, but I think they were secretly married in 66. Just a hunch. But it seems like I remember something from a while back that led me to think JPM & Jane were married in the states.... I'm thinkin' Washington.... before they returned home from the tour. Anybody else remembering this?

I never heard that they may have been married in the States. Maybe when Mal and faux-PAUL went to meet her for her birthday in the US, they had a "divorce" done?
I was trying to think of why they would have pushed through a secret marriage like that, the only thing I can think is pregnancy scare. I don't think JPM would have agreed any other way. Of course, there is no child that we know of. So maybe there was an abortion -- or a fake pregnancy scare. I wouldn't put it past Dr. Richard Asher to mess with his own daughter's cycle (dinner spiked with hormones?) to achieve the desired result.

Ya well, I could be wrong also..... that's a really good possibility!
But whether they had gotten married or not before JPM was replaced is somethin' we'll probably never now for sure. Those had to have been some dark days for Jane either way.

Yeah, I believe Paul and Jane were secretly married. Not for very long before the autumn of '66 though. Of course I have no real evidence of this (besides a song lyric or two), but it's just a hunch.
Why would they keep it a secret? Well, a single Paul McCartney is more marketable than a married Paul McCartney, especially at that time. Just like a living Paul McCartney would be more profitable than a dead Paul McCartney.

Just like a living Paul McCartney would be more profitable than a dead Paul McCartney. So true, and a look at all of the Apple financial transactions from creation until now would pretty much tell the whole story, count on that.

They briefly tried to keep John & Cynthia's marriage a secret for this reason. That is what we are now told "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" is about.
