Flaming Pie, Run Devil Run, Driving Rain, and Chaos & Creation are all part of it, and I must say, as an owner of these albums (and nearly every Wings/Solo Paul album) they are truely his most serious, melodic, and even output of all time.
What do you guys think?

What do you guys think? I wasn't a fan of his solo work until a few years ago. By the mid 70's I was done with "Paul" & pretty much anybody related to the 60's. But over the last few years I've come full-circle & can appreciate some of that old-normal stuff again. Seein' the 93 tour helped get me interested in Beatle related stuff again. That damn silly-love-song era was truly awful ... hideous... well, I think most people agree on that. So ya it's good to see the music improvin'... it was about damn time. I don't have Flaming Pie or RDR yet, but I think Driving Rain is an OK album. Raindrops is a great song.. complete with a new death clue so I had to have the cd. I don't care for RTR all the way thru, but there are a few good tracks there. C&C thou...... that album is on a totally different level. With that cover & title I knew it was gonna be somethin' before I heard it.... what an album. With LOTS of help from Nigel Godrich, they finally captured the essence of a "real" McCartney album. They made the perfect illusion. So anyway... the late career peak didn't happen until C&C for my ears, but the albums were gettin' better... He had already caught my attention with his side projects. The Fireman's 2 cd's, The Liverpool Sound Collage, & more recently, Twin Freaks.... I really enjoy Twin Freak & Fireman.... great stuff. Billy has a talent for pickin' good collaborators.

eyesbleed, how do you think he has been able to maintain this "illusion" for so long I think that two of his first collaborators were David Bowie & Elton John.

Maybe the Silly Love Song era was Bill's music. Perhaps Bill tapped into a vault of JPM's works in progress, or maybe Bill channelled JPM to get inspiration for this latter material....He channeled George Harrison, why not JPM himself? Just a thought...

There's a lot of people who work at maintaining the illusion. It's a big business..... still. I think it was beatlies who went so far as to say "McCartney" is just a brand name..... the more I think about it, the more I tend to agree. (correct me if I'm wrong, beatlies... my memory ain't worth a hoot) At this point Bill seems to be enjoyin' playin' the game, or at least he seems to enjoy leavin' the occational death clue. The Grammy thing from a few yrs back still cracks me up. David Bowie & Elton..... good possible prospects as the sources of Let It be & Hey Jude..... coz I'll betcha they were ghost-written by somebody.

I'm pretty sure that the exceptional quality on C&C should be credited to Nigel Godrich... if it wasn't for him, this woulda just been another alright Macca release.... nothin' special or anything.

eyesbleed, I agree completely with what you wrote. I'm pretty sure that "Maybe I'm amazed" was a "gift" from Elton to Bill. Bowie makes reference to later Beatle works in some of his song. " She's leaving home" vs. " Life on Mars " comes immediately to mind. Nigel Godrich isn't mentioned if you Google Chaos & Creation. I tried doing it.

I think whoever "collaborated" on the Flaming Pie album may be the same person/people who "collaborated" on Fylvie's album which came out about the same time. I haven't heard it but crictics claimed it was her best in years, pretty much what they said about Faul's album. And, as I recall, Faul was in France for at least one song on the Flaming Pie album...guess we're gonna have to get to hear Fylvie's album now... Toutes Les Femmes Ont Un Secret Samples
