Just seeing a preview of tomorrow night's Grammy Awards, there was an anouncement of a Sgt. Pepper Tribute. Hmmm. The timing of this...does it coincide with the Beatles' first appearance on Ed Sullivan? Don't remember the date, just remember the moment seeing them on tv.

I thought it strange as to the choice of songs beginning with A Day in Life, complete with white volkswagon and at the opportune moment, the volkswagon is pulled apart by dancers, as if symbolic for Paul's accident. In the background a funeral procession at a graveyard..and then finishing with a choir singing Let It Be....
it seemed like the funeral for JPM that he never really received...but had in this tribute.
Of all the songs of the Beatles to be performed at the Grammy's one would have thought from songs throughout their career.
It was like an inside symbolic funeral..for those who know about PID/PWR.

Damn.... I was washin' dishes durin' that deal. I have a strong aversion to watchin' people in tights runnin' & jumpin' around a stage to music..... so I figured that would be a fine time to do the dishes. So.... thanks for the report LR..... sorry I didn't catch that. I was like everybody else & just wanted to see if Amy was gonna pull a Britney.....

Sounds ritualistic. And it's played out every day.

And at the end of the Grammy's they had a Cirque version of the Sgt Pepper Reprise...It seems fitting as the cast of characters who performed last night was everything from Amy Winehouse, to Carrie Underwood, to Aretha Franklin singing gospel...you get my point, about anyone who is anything in music currently was there or mentioned...Almost like the variety of faces shown on the Sgt. Pepper cover, but this was all musical people not actors and other historical figures.
But in our culture, musicians and singers are historical figures, and in most people's hearts and minds, more significant than politicians or other public figures.
It was interesting because it was on about 8:30, a half hour into the program. Maybe someone will have that on You Tube and you will be able to see it for yourselves.
Most people may not have picked up the significance of ADITL and a white volkswagon, or the funeral procession, being that there was also footage of war battles taking place, but the visual image ended in a graveyard with funeral...so that was my take on it. Being a "PID'er" that's what I took from it.
My sister also watched it and thought it peculiar to use those two songs, the car and the funeral....
And like Iamaeye said, this "ritual" is played out everyday in that Las Vegas production.
The next thing I see is when they take this show on the road. Then many more people will be able to witness this.
When Sir George Martin accepted his award, he made mention that it was George's idea to have their music performed fir the Cirque...now how much of an influence on what songs and themes did George have with those at Cirque?
After all, he wanted this story to be told. And who knows what else is displayed throughout the rest of their show?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4ZpbsBUb2wWow! That's like watching Eyes Wide Shut! Totally ritualistic, sexual and clearly paul is dead from a car crash (or else I am crazy and projecting all this stuff and you all are figments of my imagination <grin>)

Seems like the theme for the show was "Sympathy for the Devil" On top of the Beatles stuff, Carrie Underwood played in front of burning fires like it was hell as she sang about revenge, and Kayne did a bunch of stuff about his dead mother and how he looks forward to sleep where he still gets to see his mother...Now check out www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DoujVI8kCQ

It's too weird to even watch... What's so weird about a bunch of freaks in gothic costumes, a totally hot babe giving a little kid a guitar, then flying around a little, then a car (the same one from Abby Road with Sgt Pepper stripes in big lights behind the action) blowing apart in firey red lighting and killing the babe (but before we get a nice little upskirt shot), then another little boy singing another Beatles song, then a bunch of dancing, then the Queen of Soul singing Faul like it is a funeral, and finally everybody rises from the dead, and there is a peace sign that reads: Let It Be. Nothing odd about that at all <my best Aleister Crowley smirk>

Nothing odd about that at all <my best Aleister Crowley smirk> A splendid time was guaranteed for all. Although I was waiting for Henry The Horse to dance the waltz.... The Queen of Soul singing Faul....now there's an image we're not prepared for. Although Aretha Franklin, the true queen of soul sang in another number. Or was Aretha replaced? Mr. H. demonstrated 10 somersaults he'll undertake...gee whiz...if they are going to have a tribute to Sgt. Pepper as the preview boasted....we need to have Billy Shears, Lucy in the Skies, Fixing a Hole, and not to mention, Lovely Rita... So it was a false advertisement, although ADITL is part of Sgt Pepper and the reprise was at the very end of the telecast... It made for an interesting evening of entertainment...Except I'm not into Kanye West and his bizarre presentation....that reminded me of "We hate love, we love money" chant that was in the Sgt. Pepper movie...

Did anyone record the 2008 Grammy Sgt. Pepper Tribute ? I sure wish it could be posted here but I don't know how you could do it unless upload it to YT - copy it here and then remove it from YT ----- that may not even work It has been removed from YT and all other websites. I watched it once before it was removed ! and it was very disturbing. I feel it was done in that fashion for a reason. It sure seemed to play out the death of Paul ? ? ?

Letter B - THANKS ! That won't be on YT very long. CBS had the other one removed because of some sort of "infringement ? rights".
Thank you so much for finding this one !!

Aretha Franklin has always been known as the "Queen" of soul. Beyonce introduced Tine Turner as the "Queen" at the Grammys. Maybe the old Queen is dead and the new one is being welcomed? Anyway, all this talk of Queens, plus the perhaps dead Queen (you can't have two Queens unless you live in my neighborhood), plus Aretha singing "Let It Be" as part of some funeral ritual I don't understand? www.eonline.com/gossip/hum/detail/index.jsp?uuid=d3007ce0-37d5-463a-94c3-b7d5808444b7

Aretha did not sing Let It Be. But she was an Aretha type of soul singer....
Unless she was being tested as a replacement...well, successor would be more appropriate

Yes! I think the point is they wanted to create that visual/aural association. Isn't there a lot of Alice in Wonderland stuff about the Queen losing her head?
