Found this at PaulMcCartney.com, from Geoff Baker on the boards.. it's interesting that he brings up 'Paul is dead' ...
This is Kafkaesque, or at least a little like what I suppose the Paul Is Dead thing felt like. I actually AM him, the scowling Marlboro-eater. And, for the record, EX-publicist now (contrary to the Net reports, I actually left PR and therefore Paul because I wanted to write books). What am I doing? Besides reeling with bemused and complimented
fascination that anyone should have any interest in me, I've just finished writing that novel that I've been dropping hints about. It's 672 pages long and if my agent is not taking the piss, three publishers are allegely interested in getting the rights to print it up as barbecue fuel. It's called "You Probably Think This Book Is About You" and, again contrary to the chatter that somebody pointed up to me on one of those websites where the members believe that I am the Antichrist, it is NOT about Himself. It IS about the music industry and the media and the questionable morality of the manipulations thereof. It is also, in a large part, about fans and the largely-ignored anguish of fandom. Because, "without whom...", the stars would cease to dazzle. As we know.Anyway, that's done and now I'm
researching another novel, which is about the idiot idealogy of war. Until recently I was taking time out of all this to try my hand as a TV producer, but I've jacked that in due to the TV industry being (in my opinion) even more cravenly fad-obsessed than the pop game. I'm still living in Wiltshire,
still smoking the equivalent of Illinois' consumption (and Jamaica's), not drinking, desperately attempting to diet and lower a cholesterol level that is bizarrely three times higher than you'd expect of a 26-year-long veggie (now vegan). I have little contact with MPL anymore, although I hear from
whispering there that the new album is classic Macca. Am I surprised by the support? Staggered might be a better term for it. Although I'm not convinced that this is not some huge wind-up orchestrated by the charming Mr. Freundlich. I have very good memories of you guys too; I always thought that the true fans were like the SAS in the PR battles and they certainly came to my aid every time that we needed the help to razz stuff up a bit. Thank you
for that. I miss you too, but that day is done. By the way, my replacement - Stuart Bell, the lean young nipper with the blonde hair - he's a good guy; you'll like him. He's very smiley and kind. Help him if you can. Anyway, thank you for your interest, what are YOU up to?
