I've been skimming through the Anthology book.. haven't read it all yet, but I saw something interesting in the 65 section about 'Nowhere Man'. Paul was talking about how John wrote the song one night blah blah. Then he says "Later I found out it was written about me" ... dunno if this has any relevance to anything other than showing a slight insight to John's view on Paul.. but I thought it was worth a mention.
He’s a real nowhere man, Sitting in his nowhere land, Making all his nowhere plans For nobody.
Doesn’t kave a point of view, Knows not where he’s going to, Isn’t he a bit like you and me? Nowhere man, please listen, You don’t know what you’re missing, Nowhere man, the world is at your command.
He’s as blind as he can be, Just sees what he wants to see, Nowhere man can you see me at all? Doesn’t kave a point of view, Knows not where he’s going to, Isn’t he a bit like you and me? Nowhere man, don’t worry, Take your time, don’t hurry, Leave it all till somebody else Lends you a hand.
He’s a real nowhere man, Sitting in his nowhere land, Making all his nowhere plans For nobody.

That's interesting. I thought I read in one of John's interviews that it was written about himself. Was that Paul or Bill recollecting? Bill has been known to rewrite history on occasion.

I think it was about John himself.

I think it was about John himself. I agree. John liked to write about himself..i.e. Help! Plus, I think he had too much respect for Paul to talk about him this way.

I don't see it as a nasty song or anything.. I see it as quite a sad song, like John saying to Paul, I know your lost, but I'm here for you... But I agree.. John wrote it about himself, but you just never know with these boys do ya! I guess in a PID light, it just proves that when Bill doesn't know his answers, he just makes them up on the spot, which he is pretty good at doing, though he does contradict himself... frequently
