Getting back to Billy Shears, I think there are a couple possible explanations for the surname. First of all, there's the "shearing shepherd" connection, but there could be more to it than that. Perhaps Shears is an amalgation of Shepherd with another name, with the "She" coming from Shepherd and the "ars" coming from the tail end of the vocal imitator's name (or maybe "Sir Paul's" name, if William Shepherd was the vocal imitator instead of Faul).

These pics of Billy Shears look alot like JPM. The pic that shows Billy Shears before surgery even has a cleft in his chin like JPM.
One question is this, is Billy Shears supposed to be the same man as Bill Shepherd, the one we know as Faul?
Billy Shears looks more like JPM before surgery than Bill/Faul looks like JPM in the Mal Evans' Africa film footage and that was after surgery. IMO
Were there not more than one Faul on the scene during the early replacement years, like 1967 era? Some of the pics I've seen posted from Sgt. Pepper sessions looks different in some of the more rare pics.
Some of the pictures I've seen from that period while he wears that walrus mustache, the eyes look more found, like Bill/Faul, and some look more drooping like JPM's were. Unless these pics have been doctored to look that way.
It was an era filled with Mc Cartney look a likes, like being in Memphis and seeing tons of Elvis impersonators.

The problem with that is that in the early photos of "Faul ", he doesn't have a cleft in his chin ! That was put in sometime in 1967. There are elements of the story that ring true, as far as what the "in" crowd was told. Some of the story I have my doubts about.
