The text of the book was taken from interviews in 1973 & 1975. Lots of pics, and here is the cover: However, this is pretty interesting, while he talks of the PID business, and repeats the same 'ol same 'ol, there is this copy of an article from an underground newspaper.. Not from England I guess, it doesn't say, but it looks to be American most likely. Thought you might find this entertaining..(click on the pic for a larger version if it's too hard to read)

not so far fetched! Could it perhaps be that simple? no government involvement, no evil schemes, no shapeshifting aliens.
Could the Beatles themselves have pulled this off?

What is the strongest hit for me is the idea that he was a professional long before being tapped to be a replacement, easier than starting from scratch.
They give that November date again, no, not likely, the odd stuff started happening before that as we have seen.
A "Billy Shears" Paul ringer seen performing in small clubs, crossing paths with Paul on occasion even, then retiring to studio work.. Hmm.. On one hand, you could see that disappearing from general awareness if this happened before the Beatles got famous, on the other hand you'd think there would be those who said "gee i remember that guy Billy Shears, strange they bring him up on the Pepper album".
Of course Derek Taylor said once: "and I'd like to thank Billy Shears"..
Maybe the name was changed in the above article. Somewhere in history, there IS a guy whose story is similar I'd bet.

The thing is though, at least to my perception, in the beginning ol' Billy Shears didn't exactly act real comfortable playing with the other lads (i.e. "Hello, Goodbye"). I find it hard to believe an experienced musician would have that deer-in-the-headlights look and couldn't at least know how to least pretend. But a lot of times, he just seemed lost and confused.

But a lot of times, he just seemed lost and confused. Agreed, but at being a Beatle perhaps, the whole situation was a mind blower, no matter what a pro musician you are. Really, put yourself in his shoes.

I've reason to believe that "Billy Shears" is a pseudonym, based on how it correlates other things. Being an aspiring musician appears quite feasible, though I need more to prove he was as accomplished as the article states.

I doubt the author would reveal his father's real last name, assuming he did meet him.

maybe this guy is Billy after the surgeons? ! or before? Those don't seem to be Bill's eyes......but, this man seems lankier than some pictures of James Paul........JP was very trim in most photos, but kind of "boxy" The labial lines are heavy, as it seems Paul's were...I think....... Confusing photo, but a good find. I've never seen that one. Thanks for posting it.

yup.. is Paul! Keep in mind, Paul is a bit of a chameleon.
Just look at the size of his face.. it's small.. don't be put off by the hair.

Yes, PennyLane, and those famous ears we all know and love...
In general, I find that Paul has a shorter torso than Bill... JMO

who's this guy next to John (Help! too), the real Paul?. ummm Remember. The Bahama footage of "Help!" was shot from middle February onward for I believe a couple if weeks, maybe 10 days, I'll look it up. It is cold during February in the Bahamas. Also, Ringo complained about having to jump in the ocean over and over for one scene from how cold it was! Look at the dressers to their right. They are bundled up like they are in Siberia. They are putting warm coverings over John and.....whomever that is. Is it not George? That is from the original shoot. The notable thing is, in the home movie of the Bahamas shoot, when all the cameraman etc are on the beach getting ready, practically nobody has a shirt on! Because----they weren't cold. Because----it may have been a different time of the year. Which can only mean----they went back......... Or else, we must believe that a full camera crew enjoyed wearing nothing but a shirt and bathing trunks in 30 degree weather in the Bahamas in February.

The average temperature for The Bahamas in February is 64-77 degrees according to Atlapedia.com. So it was plenty warm enough for them to go shirtless.
I see where you are going with this Doc. I am not sure I agree but it's an interesting theory. Certainly possible. My opinion is that Paul had his hair combed more like Bill would and less moptop in that movie, especially in the opening video of Help.

I sure think so too, that's George, or at the very least, not Paul.
About the weather, you have to admit the people helping do look rather layered up for it to be a balmy low 70's or high 60's. Maybe that's just me, but up here, that IS balmy. (one would think for people from England as well) In general, perhaps the Bahamas is like that in February, but perhaps they had the bad luck to hit a cold spell.

I do see a younger version of "Sir Paul" here, IMO. Yeah there's that Ray Romano thing going on, but regardless..

I think the George pic proves we can't trust grainy small blurry pics. I can't tell much from that pic above.. but I'll agree with JoJo and say I see a young "Sir Paul" too

Yeah there's that Ray Romano thing going on, but regardless.. I'll give it a week before SK suggests that that is another of Sir Paul's characters

How young you think Paul is in this pic? Beacuse his hair style don't match with the 50's and early 60's Easily well past the pics from the early days, and you don't need the hair as a guide. That's someone who looks around 30, maybe a little over? IMO that's Sir Paul without any work done yet. When I said it looked like a young Sir Paul, I meant you could take what he looks like now, and "wayback machine" to the above, no prob. I don't see a Help! Paul, or the pre Africa '66 Paul here either.

Also, somewhere, there is some commentary about how "bloody" cold it was---Lennon or somebody saying thy were freezing out on the beach, etc, I'll have to hunt for it (it may have dissappeared or be in the most obscure web site EVER) but the idea was---it was too cold even for short sleeves etc....Precisely, I don't have the weather reports for the region on those dates, but it is possible that they had an unseasonably cold 10 or 14 days, however long they were there (I didn't add up the days from the shooting schedule) But, I agree with the point that those average temperatures wouldn't have been notably unpleasant if that's only as cool as it ever got. Especially me; I'd probably enjoy summers in Norway.

Yes that pick has very few proper JPM like qualities, just emulations of his qualities if you get me!
Though i think 30 is tops for that guys age, mid 20's i reckon...
