The Norman Gunston Show is a comedy show, so his interview with Faul and Linda may be considered as serious as Chris Farley's interview. Nonetheless, a little less than half-way through the interview, Norman asks about PID. The audience laughs, but Faul and Linda's reaction is quite an interesting study. Faul looks up and away, says "Well..." and hesitates. Then Linda jumps in with "I gave him the kiss of life" (Kiss of Life is slang for cardiopulmonary resuscitation--CPR), while Faul finishes his sentence, "not much, you know...", then looks down. Then someone in the audience, I guess, blurts out "He's not really here." and Norman responds "No. No." There really isn't a reaction, only a silent pause from Faul (as he looks down) and Linda is looking out at the audience at whoever spoke up. Faul's body language, the looks away, is classic of someone who doesn't want to tell the truth, and his crossed arms tell us he's in a defensive stance. Neither of them tell us outright that Paul died ( or at least was on the verge of death), nor do they deny it. But Linda does tell us she was responsible for reviving "Paul". Either way, they're strange things to say, and easily lost in a joke on a comedy show. youtube.com/watch?v=Xqwt6HRJAlE&search=Paul%20McCartney%20interview

This interview shares a common trait with this one, in that the interviewer throws him a curve ball, and he seems to lose his composure, although in a very controlled way. In the Kevin Keaton interview I linked, Keaton is saying, "you won't have to worry about dying young", (like Elvis and Buddy Holly) and a few seconds go by before Bill realizes what he said, and gets a "deer in the headlights look for a few seconds, followed by a few of his familiar nervous tics.

I remember watching that Normal Gunston interview. It was very funny. However, it appears that relevant bit mentioned above was edited out - I don't remember it.

As regards the second interview, was there supposed to be a reference to Paud is dead? Maybe I missed it when I watched it. What was the curveball and how far in?

3 minutes in or so, and it's not a PID reference or question, simply the idea of someone dying young (esp a rock musician) and his reaction. Up until that point, it was all routine light questions..
Bill: I'm sorry, what did you mean by that?
Keaton: I mean they were stopped in their prime...by death, and obviously for that reason they will always be remembered...Buddy Holly will always be remembered as 20 years old or whatever he was..and James Dean as an actor, the same sort of thing..
Bill: (after much lip biting, rubbing his ear, eyes darting about the room, says: I'd rather stick around and get old, then like be terrific and famous and die young...myself...some people like going out in a blaze of glory, I'm not one of them.
Keaton: May I just ask you how "Waterfall" came to be written?
Bill: (IMO, annoyed) If you tell me how Kevin Keaton came to be on the show...

I know that this type of response is somewhat frowned upon but...wow! His reaction to the audience member is very serious. Not angry, or silly, but more like "You know". Great find, JoJo. Thanks for posting the link.

Jai, I just watched the film clip. 1st off, I don't think that Bill looks all that much like Paul. His mannerisms are off. His forehead looks shiny, & he has quite a few lines in it. This looks like it's from sometime in the early to mid 1970's. I have to listen to it again. My house is quite noisy right now, so I couldn't hear much of the dialogue. That is a very good find. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Bill: (IMO, annoyed) If you tell me how Kevin Keaton came to be on the show... That's Kevin Keegan btw, a famous English footballer who released a song, that also refers to earlier in the interview.
