I've been thinking of how so many of you think that he used a singing double with the Beatles, either Niel Aspinall or the other three. When you listen to his solo work his voice obviously sounds very Paulish, so even if he were an impostor his voice should sound the same. I think there would be no reason to use someone else.

They had to phase in Faul's singing gradually. If he had started singing too early, people would've noticed the difference. Faul's voice was/is noticeably higher pitched and thinner than Paul's. People gradually got used to thinking that was Paul's voice all along, until they went back to the pre-'67 records, of course. Then cognitive dissonance kicked in. Same goes for the photos.

And slightly OT from the thread, but I want to add that I listened to "Hello, Goodbye" closely, repeatedly, with the right (Vocal) track up and the left track off, and I am NOW convinced that James Paul's voice IS in the mix of that song. I hear it at certain point. When I can listen again I will post the minute'second placed where I really hear it. It is strikingly there in two places. I also suspect it may have been sped up and dropped in to the mix. I think it is Bill singing along to create the chorus/double track effect. Paul, I think, wrote the song. Bill sang the "why, why, why do you say" bridge, I believe.

Revolver, those two words are interesting, cognitive dissonance. I needed a definition, so I found a good quick summary here: www.ithaca.edu/faculty/stephens/cdback.htmlSome important points: A cognition, for the purpose of this theory, may be thought of as a ³piece of knowledge. If two cognitions are discrepant, we can simply change one to make it consistent with the other. Or we can change each cognition in the direction of the other. (blending the old and new Pauls together) If two cognitions cause a certain magnitude of dissonance, that magnitude can be reduced by adding one or more consonant cognitions. (focus on the simlilarities) Since the discrepant and consonant cognitions must be weighed by importance, it may be advantageous to alter the importance of the various cognitions. In other words, the difference between the earlier and later Pauls may cause some internal conflict, so you take the similarities of each and focus on them. Also, you may weigh the importance of the differences as trivial, and the simlilarities as being far more important. Thanks Revolver.
