A concert boot I found, it was filmed by someone in the audience with a home video cam. The reason I'm posting this clip is that someone told me that if someone pronounces "Toronto" such that it sounds like "Tah-ra-nah", they are speaking like a native. Here, Bill does the standard "glad to be here" speech, and then he raises his fist and says: "Tah-ra-nah..Toronto" (the second time the way non natives would say it) If the person who told me about this wants to weigh in, feel free.. www.jojoplace.org/Shoebox/Toronto.wmv

But, non-natives to Atlanta come to Atlanta to do concerts and say, jokingly, "How y'all doin', Aa-yuht-LAY-ah-nuh!" (5 syllables, no "T", and yes, some of us do drawl that way)
Talk to the natives in their own, so to speak.......
Still..........'scuze me, I meant: "STEEH-illle".
{To make it really sound authentic, get a stopwatch, anything with a second hand, and make that one word last 4 or 5 seconds.}

Still..........'scuze me, I meant: "STEEH-illle". {To make it really sound authentic, get a stopwatch, anything with a second hand, and make that one word last 4 or 5 seconds.} That's true, Doctor Robert. Artists will do that. They'll also say things like "I love this city". "It's my fav' place to visit, almost". "The fans here are the best". I guess you could say he seems like he's doing the usual and expected thing by saying hello to the fans after performing a couple of songs. If he'd said "G'night, thanks for coming out" after only 2 songs...you'd have to hope he was only kidding. ;D Still, he does have the accent down, considering he is "British". Also, the accent on pronouncing Toronto isn't that obvious. Maybe it is to some people-- in a general sense that could be true. It's just that pronouncing Toronto as "TA-RA-NA", or "TA-Ronto" is almost something of an inside joke in TO. It's like, if somebody says they're from "TO-RON-TO", (As opposed to "TAA-RRAA-NAA") it's almost like you wonder if they're serious. It's like, you know somebody's either from here or lives here if they pronounce it with the right accent. It's not nearly as obvious as a Southern drawl..not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just a real suttle thing. Btw, I'm sure this must've been posted before, but here's a link from an article by a Jim Kelly (Reporter) from after the show. www.chartattack.com/damn/2002/04/1709.cfm
